| | CrackBerry Cafe & Post Count
Hey Guys,
Just a heads up on some forum change-ups. We've been contemplating this for a while and finally have it implemented.
Couple things:
- we've moved the CrackBerry Newbies back to the top of the site (so many new users every day coming online that we want it to be easily found) and we're going to put some additional Stickies in there so new members find the basics quicker - Forum Rules, FAQ stuff, How to Use the Forums, etc.
- Re: CrackBerry Cafe. We've removed Post Count from the four forums within this area: CrackBerry Rehab, Marketplace, Social Users & Off Topic. Reasoning here is that of late there is a blurry line between Social Users/Off Topic and there is quite a bit of "chat". Nothing wrong with that at all, but we want Post Count to be more directly correlated to the actual BlackBerry discussions (devices, help, rumors, etc.) and value added posts vs. social stuff (not that we don't appreciate social stuff though!). The most logical way we could come up with to keep this consistent between the forums and still easily allow people to talk about all the things they want to talk about is to take this approach. I think it should work ok - we may need to do some additional tweaking, but I think this all makes sense. The change doesn't effect existing post counts, just from here onward.
Clarification regarding the difference between Social Users vs. Off Topic: Social Users forum is for pin sharing, meet ups, conversations still somewhat connected to BBs. Off Topic is for completely unrelated stuff: sports, politics, celebs, etc.
People really shouldn't be obsessed with Post Count (look at me, I'm still under 1,000 and I'm the longest time member here!), so hopefully everybody will understand this and be cool with it. There's never a perfect system...always some compromises to be made, but think this is logical and should work for the best interests of the community and the site.
Think that covers it for today, Keep Crack'n!

Thanks for taking the time to explain whats been going on. So here's my question for you Kev.
Based on what you said; "The change doesn't effect existing post counts, just from here onward." If that is the case, then why did everyone who is part of a certain thread that got moved to off-topic post cost decrease? And when the thread was placed back, we didnt get our count back.
If it's truly going forward, then what we had should have remained the same- the counting in these threads just would have stopped. What I did notice is that people with over 5000 post who were also part of that bounce to the nether regions count did not change at all.
Just looking for clarification.

Ahh.. Ok. Hang on. Not intentional. I saw that thread got moved to the Off Topic. I moved it back to Social Users after I had made this change. Give me a minute and I should be able to fix that. Just the order in which things were done. Hang on.

Just looking for clarification. | Lex, there are only 5 members with post counts over 5000...
I am a part of the thread you are speaking of and I experienced the same changes everyone else did. So, there is no "picking and choosing" going on... and every contributor in that thread experienced the same treatment. Nobody on the forums gets special treatment, and everyone who was a part of 'that thread' was treated the same exact way!
Besides, I thought everyone in 'that thread' said it was not all about the post count... and that they were concerned they were not being treated the same. Well, now that all of those threads have the same treatment... the truth comes out.
Just let it go. There is obviously a logical reason behind all of this and Kevin has explained it. They moved the thread and then made all of these rules, so I am sure they will take care of it and everything will be back to normal

| | Thank You!!! Thanks to Kevin and the rest of the staff of Crackberry... I'm glad you took the time to address this issue.
I honestly did not care much about the post count. But what right is right and what is wrong is wrong.
Once again Thank You!!!

I dont know what you think the truth is but I've already stated that this was about principle; no more no less. Now you can continue to elude or throw innuendo into all you want but the fact remains that I came to this site for what it offered me and I have passed the knowledge I've gained on to others.
I learn and have fun all at the same time. So please, dont reply to me underhanded like you are doing now and then say move on. If moving on is that important to you, then you DONT have to have a comment for everything that is on MY mind!
I'm NOT sorry I wasnt hip hip horraying like you do. I am pleased that Kevin took the time to offer us an explanation on site changes instead of telling us like you did that "they did what was best" and for us to pretty much just get over it! Quote:

Hrrmm..Ok. Not quite sure. I turned back on post count for Social Users for a bit, moved that Scavenger Pic thread around. That post count drop would have happened I guess when that thread got moved to OT earlier in the day (i didn't make that thread move). Don't think it would have changed from the changes made in this post announcement.
So I don't think it's putting back the original post count though from after when it was first moved to OT. Once it got moved from a post counting forum to a non counting forum it dropped. Was hoping if I moved it back to a counting post forum that the count would pop back up, but doesn't seem to be. Hiccup on our part maybe... The post count drop experience by some/any should only have been pretty small I think (just from that thread...people who posted more on that thread would have been more affected)??
I'll see if I can get it back, but not sure that I can. So just keep at er! Let me know if there are any other issues that may have popped up.
Wasn't intentional to penalize anybody on any thread, and like I said, the changes above wouldn't have caused it...would have happened during the first thread move prior to these changes. Just trying to be set up as best as possible for the future, and today was the day I finally got it in place. Always some little issues that can pop up when we make these kinds of changes... but for the most part should be good to go!
Thanks for the patience and understanding everyone!!

I think you are misunderstanding me completely at this point... Quote:

I seriously hope we can get over this disagreement because it is said and done. Sorry you feel that I was aiming for the worst, but I really did not have a bad intention or poor motives.
