This may sound odd, and no, I haven't been drinking (ha).. I had loaded a leak on my Z10, and played with it for a while. It was fine. Fun to play with new shtuff.
BUT, I really like the look of the 10.2 calendar. I like my Remember the way it is. I have Amazon app world and Snap. My battery life is UNREAL. I prefer the 4x5 icon arrangement. I have no issues so far....
Is there a tangible benefit to upgrade I may not be aware of? I do suffer from "if it ain't broken, don't fixit-itis".
Except for the panorama camera feature! Loved that! (any way to upgrade the camera alone)?
Thanks in advance for your input!

My only fear for individuals staying on an older OS is support related. Eventually, OS versioning becomes unsupported out of evolution. Things you have working flawlessly now stop functioning the same or worse don't work at all.

On the plus side of moving to 10.3.1, you get a whole slew of new services and features.

    - Better camera options with Panoramic and timer functions
    - Interaction options, flip to mute, lift to wake etc.
    - BlackBerry Blend, which is awesome!
    - Update to Android Runtime. This is definitely a huge improvement in the way Android apps run smoothly on our devices. Personally, I'd update for this advancement alone.

I'm sure there are a bunch of other stuff I'm missing but these are the tops I can think of.

Well, I much prefer the new UI/icons and added row but the quick actions alone in the hub (to delete emails) would make me switch. Add to that the improved Android app support (more apps run with less issues) and better overall performance (maybe not as noticeable as much on the Z30 but I updated an old Z10 from 10.2.1 to 10.3.1 and the phone was much faster overall). Plus you have improvements to the Contacts app (more control of syncing of address books).

I've been off of 10.2.1 so long that when I go back to it it feels old and slow but that could just be me.

I guess if flash support was a big deal that may be a reason to stay but I never used it so don't care that I no longer have it.

You can also split the fence; 10.3.0 leaks gives you some of the 10.3.1 perks, but while keeping the 10.2.1 perks.

OP, I am with you on this. I really didn't like the 10.3.1 on my new Classic (hated the Calendar app and the Blue Circle). Although 10.3.1 offers some new features, they are not that important to me compared to the drop in functionality of the Calendar app which I heavily use. So, I have decided not to upgrade the software on my Q10 and Z30. By the way, I have gone back to my Z30 on 10.2.1 as my daily driver (benched the Classic)!

In my fantasy world, I would like to update OS yet keep 10.2 calendar, remember and a few other things. Is this possible with leaks? Can a person upload a leak, and/or choose not to update calendar or remember? (may be a dumb question, but I've never been afraid to ask them!). Cheers.

EDIT: been thinking.. I need a 2nd Z30 to play with, load leaks, experiment, etc... My Z10 went to my daughter for a while. She has a Q10, but wanted the touch. (She really liking the Z10.)

In the past (and more limited in the present), folks would create HYBRID OS versions where they would mix and match the component modules. Sometimes that may still work. You need to get the Blitz files (or other loaders) that you can dissect, grab specific bar files and then try things out. As you suggested, having a phone you can experiment with it best as you might create a few bricks on the way to creating the All American Winning Show Dog!!!

Update: I spent quite a bit of time reading the forums , trying to objectively review the new OS. I pulled out my Q10, which has the new OS, and played around. Most of my fears were alleviated. Remember has settings for note view as default. The calendar, although it doesn't have the growing dates and more elegant bar style appointment view, is functional and not difficult to adjust to. The install was absolutely painless. No issues at all.
The only problem I discovered is my tried and true password app Vault, no longer works. Goodbye old friend. All in all the new OS is truly a polished upgrade. If you haven't upgraded your Z30 yet, I suggest you grab a beer, a glass of wine or a dram of scotch and fly at it!! You WILL like it!

Agreed- wife and I both updated and new OS is a vast improvement. Our Z30's are blazing fast on the updated OS and I really dig the new UI. Super snappy in utilizing functions. OS is just getting better and better. Those coming back to BlackBerry with the Classic or Passport are going to be VERY pleased and what a nice upgrade for existing customers. Well done John Chen and company.

You need to update so that you can experience the improvements made by BlackBerry for you. You can't forever stay in that 10.2 OS because it will get buggy overtime and you will have more trouble than ever then.

    Serious answer: Are you serious?!

Besides all the readily *visible* changes, don't you think BB implemented more security enhancements too? (And in light of all current snooping practices, some of those too? Ha!)

If I were to buy a brand new Z30 running 10.3 out of the box, and assuming I'm a first-time BB user, I'll *never* be able to say, "Boy, that 10.2 was really fantastic. I so want that version!"

If you've ever used another OS, and I'm sure you have, you'll know what I'm talkin' 'bout.
(BTW, with an Apple phone, you'll have no choice. But then I guess that's why you and me don't have Apple phones. My apologies if you do - as well.)

No apples in this house! (1 ipod).
And yes, security is key. That was taken into consideration. That is one of the reason I did the upgrade.
I suggest to anyone still undecided, review the forums. Feel comfortable about the update. You will likely NOT experience any of the issues other have. If you do, some Crackberryian will have a fix, or will find a work-around.

Just received a Z30 yesterday and still playing around with it. Plan on switching from my Z10 to the Z30 this weekend. What 10.3.1 OS version would those of you already running one suggest? I am on Verizon. Thanks for any help.
