Blackberry Personal for LTE w/Visual Voicemail $30.00

I am also on the old unlimited data plan.

Is this $30 charge necessary and if not, how to remove it? Thanks.

You should just call AT&T customer service and see what they can do about it. If you were already on an older data-enabled plan, you should not be charged more for access.

If your previous data plan was NOT a 'smartphone plan' (BB7 devices may not qualify as smartphones), then they will automatically enroll you in a smartphone plan once you switch to a BB10 device.

That is how my grandfathered unlimited data plan also showed up on my ATT bill.

BB7 was most definitely considered a smartphone by AT&T. My old Pearl 8100, an OS 4.5 phone was a smartphone to AT&T. It was around mid 2007 that AT&T began pushing smartphone data plans on users who had what they considered "smartphones", way before BB7 came along. I had to have a data plan when I first got my Pearl. That's the same plan I'm currently grandfathered into.

Exactly. That's just how it's labeled now on your bill.

That's how it's been on my bill for the past year and a half.

BTW, I have never actually activated or used the Visual Voice mail thing, so I don't even know what it does or how it works.

VVM saves voice mail messages as wav files on your device, and shows the name (if one of your contacts) and the number of the caller. You can play the file, save it and play it again, etc

That's your data plan. At&t includes vvm for free so it shows on the bill
