Am considering the SIM-free offer of �279 here in the UK. Unsure of which colour to buy. The black looks smart but 'safe'. The white looks more 'plasticky' and wannabee Samsung.

Any views or advice? Anyone own both? Photos would be appreciated.

I think you have answered your own question. Black is where it's at! I like the sleek look of my black Z30 with it's textured looking back but it is really only the BB logo you can feel that is slightly raised. The silver bottom bezel gives it a nice and professional look and it helps that you can immediately tell which end is the bottom which is handy for quick access. On my old Z10, it was sometimes difficult to tell in a dark room.

I personally have the black Z30 and the black carbon fibre back looks and feels awesome. I do have a brand new white Z30 but thats still in box for sisters Christmas present so can't open that one sorry :/ Here are some pics of my Z30 taken with my Z10. The silver looks yellow cause I'm in a yellow room. Mind the little chip of the silver..... dropped the phone from about 5 feet (At least its durable).

To take advantage of a sale in North America I had to get the white one (black out of stock) and you are absolutely correct in making the comparison to Samsung. I really wanted the black but the white is fine although definitely more plasticky. Fortunately I had a friend willing to swap battery covers so I have a bit of a Frankenstein phone. You can also look at it this way.... if your putting a case on it, it comes down to which bezel color you prefer because the white bezel isn't that bad. Basically.... get the Black!

I have the black one. Looking at the picture of a white Z30, the BlackBerry logo at the bottom of the screen is more prominent compared to the black's. Actually most of the people I met did not aware that I was using a BlackBerry phone.

I was going to mention the plasticy feeling as well. Thanks for taking my thunder . That being said, I am sure the OP will be happy with either they select, but I agree, black is where it is at.

Personal preference... I prefer the black.

I use my Z30 for work. The black just "feels" more classic (read - traditional if you prefer)

Some say the white back is more slippery, but I didn't find that when I was at the Telus store comparing phones.

I have white I prefer it as a change to always having black phones. The Battery cover isn't as nice as the black, but that doesn't matter to me, since my phone's in a nice case

The white does feel less premium and reminds me of Samsung. Also, the smooth white back drives me nuts and looks cheap.
I've ordered a black weave back for it.
If I could swap for a black one I would in second.
I also find the white border stands out to much in relation to the screen. Meaning a black phone kind of disappears when using it but I find the white always a little in my face.

It's all about what you like and I personally like the black one with the glass weave back over the white model which felt slippery in my hand.

I also had a white model with the black back on it, but to me it killed the look of the all white device. In the end, it's your choice because your the one who has to live with it. Just my two cents.

I ordered two...a black one and a white one. Gave the white one to my wife for her birthday in a white Otterbox commuter case with a glass screen protector and though I have never been a fan of white phones that is about the best looking phone I think I have ever seen.

Always have had black phones. Black 9700, dark blue 9100 pearl, black 9900, black z10

Went with a white z30, loving it. Back is slick though and plastic but I use a case that has a carbon fiber back to it
