    Well.. that's just logical. Just how like using 3G will use less battery than 4G. Really, it's all based on your coverage. Whatever is the dominant coverage in your area is the network you should use. If you have crappy 4G coverage but your device is set to only use 4G then it's going to struggle to stay attached to 4G and ultimately take your battery down with it rather than reducing to the more dominantly available 3G.

    Unless you're with AT&T or other carriers that do not allow you to chose your cell services (selection greyed-out).

    Not really, I m on 2g network and coverage is poor and searching and downloading files fast used up battery.

    I do that too, using 2G.
    Also I think my provider doesn't support all the 3G power saving features.
    I think 4G uses less then 3G. Because of the better powersave features and lower in the frequency band.
    4G LTE on Vodafone NL is put on the 800MHz band and the are moving 2G and 3G 1900Mhz of higher.
