With manufacturers making smartphones with larger screens, and larger in general, going forward, do we really need tablet devices?

My missus isn't a gadget nut like me, but she raised some valid points and seems to think not.

    What do you think?

It would be interesting to hear from Note II, Note III, and BlackBerry Passport type users...

Call me old school but I personally don't like tablets. Well, maybe for entertainment purposes only like watching movies and whatnot, but for games and productivity, I still wouldn't trade a desktop PC or a laptop, but of course, that's just me.

I don't know if we need them but I want them. Yes I could do almost everything from my Z30 but for me the screen is still too small for a lot of things. I could use a laptop or desktop which I think are still needed for some things too but if I'm just surfing or researching etc. I'd rather just use the tablet for the convince and ease of being able to comfortably do it anywhere.

I still don't really see a use for them, they are too big to be portable enough, this and their mobile OS makes them not that useful for me. Personally I think I'll be just fine with my smartphone and notebook and I don't think I am in a need for any other devices.

I'm thinking a surface pro3 could replace my laptop and be a nice tablet for ease of use. And it's not a dumbed down OS.

I don't have a tablet I sit in front of a computer at work all day I have a laptop & pc at home...Out & about I have my Z10 (soon a Passport too) not sure why I would need a tablet or what it could do for me that my other devices already cover.

Its so nice to sit in my recliner and surf on a larger screen that doesn't have to sit on my lap or weigh a lot. I guess for me it's the larger than any phone screen ease of where you can use it. I like full websites, nit watered down mobile versions and full websites suck on a 5" screen.

My tablet is a Surface Pro 2 with a type cover. So it is handy. I have this as my girlfriend took over my laptop... an 11 inch Zenbook.

    Both weigh the same.

So yes, for me a tablet is needed. Just can't do everything on my z30.

Tablet with a keyboard is very useful. I hate typing on the touch screen.

Well, since I'm typing this on a Playbook, I would say I need a tablet.

For me personally yes! Tablets are great to use if you don't want to put all the entertainment apps on your phone. My smartphone is for taking care of business with no distractions! My tablet gives me that extra screen space for everything else. I hated carrying my note2 around. Especially for phone calls. I use my Q10 for taking care of business and my tablet for entertainment. So tablets still do serve a purpose for those who don't feel they need a phablet.

I have high hopes with the latest iteration of Intel chips, windows 10 as well as a tablet with a full physical keyboard.

Currently I am content with my touchscreen notebook and my passport.

Just having a mobile OS witha tablet defeated the purpose for me and never saw the need to get one.

Especially since I have had the lenovo twist which would work as a tablet.

The lenovo yoga is currently on my wishlist
