Please can someone hear explain to me why the prices of BlackBerry phones always fall so so drastically in a short space of time but the prices of iphones and samsung phones always have slow drop in prices. A Q10 of USD480 in Jan now goes for USD290 in Oct.

My assumption would be that the q10 is coming up on three years old. The Passport was released last month. The Classic (Q10's replacement) was announced and is just on the horizon. Something like how the iPhone6's price will drop as soon as they announce the iPhone6S

You're absolutely wrong. BB10's initial release was in January 2013, and the Q10 was released in Q2 of 2013 an it is now October 2014. That makes BB10 1 year and 10 months old and it makes the Q10 roughly 1 year and 5 months old.

This doesn't require a difficult well researched answer. Supply and Demand.

It depends on supply and demand.

Everyone wants an iPhone or Samsung smartphone, but just a few people want a Q10 or Z10. BlackBerry has built far too many for the actual demand, therefore the price falls.

    Hope this helps.

The more popular something is, the more expensive it turns

Sorry, 2 not 3. Think it's a little harsh to say 'absolutely'. Everything else is still relevant. But I guess, to each his own.

No, just no. 1 year and 5 months isn't even a full year and a half (technically). The Q10 is a year and a half old; not 3 years old, not 2 years old.

It's amazing how a little thing like simple facts are completely thrown out the window in this forum sometimes.

It's also amazing how people go around saying things like this without actually reading the post. I did say 'coming up on' Not exactly, not almost, and not a half. Relax.

Around here Samsung phone prices drop even faster compared to BlackBerry devices.Take the S5 for example: It started six months ago at EUR 690, now you can get it for roughly EUR 450.
Or the Note 3, launched one year ago for 700 you can now get it for 440.
Hopefully not double-typed with my Q10

Mobile device prices dropping are depending of market demand, company strategy , brands , devices features and OS. BlackBerry users is not many as andorid and IOS users. BlackBerry to sustainable cost of business . much dropping price is to offer to BlackBerry fans , new Users and as advertised BlackBerry branding .

    No one knows yet.

Keep checking the CrackBerry homepage daily for updates.

No need to post this question again and again. It's already been asked dozens of times already with the same result.

I just bought my Q10 for $180. Really it is supply and demand. Even for those who demand the devices, carriers in the US are making it harder to acquire them in store. So they are less in the public view on top of that and aren't given any spotlight.

Well most adds here say 280 usd but when u call they all give you the "oh it's out of stock can I interest u in an iphone or samsung or anything"

So the 280 price I found to be a hoax price. As for Used, there are no rules, can be from 400 to 50 usd it's up to the seller.

The 399 option is not open to all people, I can't ship from shop BlackBerry to lebanon. Amazon would be a better option for those in unsupported countries.

The Q10 is not even two years old, it cannot "come up on" being three years old before "coming up on" being two years old first. So your statement is incorrect.

It can come up on being three years old once it surpasses being two years old first. Your statement saying that the Q10 is coming up on being three years old implies that the Q10 already came up on being two years old beforehand.

With the SAVE100BB148 code it comes up as $299 Canadian on Shop BlackBerry.

Prices for products not in demand drop quick. I would imagine the Passport won't see the same drop so quick.
