everything else is working perfectly fine, still comes on, still receiving calls and texts. it's just not responding to touch. is there a way to resolve this issue without purchasing a new screen?

Nope. Requires a new screen. Best advice is purchase a new midframe and screen combo and replace.

Don't think so. Look all over the screen - even the smallest crack and the whole thing becomes unresponsive. My screen shattered, so I replaced it, but on my wife's, you could BARELY see a crack, but it needed to be replaced too.

First, did you pull the battery, wait about 2 minutes and re-insert the battery. Hope this does it!
    Failing that,
It may be the only hope if that there is a connector that became "loosened" with the impact. You can open the device and check all the connectors inside (do a you tube search, easy step by step vids on it). If all is good in that, it may be time to replace the screen/digitizer......
