Looks like the entire Dev Rel team was axed. Webworks is definitely dead. And I have no idea what the status of the native SDK is after 10.3.1.

Are all these positions being refilled? Or is the department itself being permanently discontinued?

Look, developer relations at BlackBerry stank big time. I don't think anyone would argue with that. The axe was going to fall sometime and it was just a matter of when. Best to go before you get fired.

It's all about cleaning the excess fat. Making BlackBerry lean and mean!

Adam was really nice guy and did a lot of work with github and the browser.

Also, he was really easy to ask questions to and gave great answers.

Hope he does well at IBM. I'm sure it will be a big change for him.

I think the Dev Rel team did a great job. Not perfect, but great given the circumstances. They:
    • Set up a number of worldwide meetups
    • Gave visibility into planned features
    • Wrote tons of blog posts
    • Did quite a few webcasts
    • Actually answered questions of forums
    • Got BB code into Github

All in all, they made it feel exciting to be a BB developer - like there was motion in the community. That's definitely gone now. The blog posts have died down, there's very little visibility into the next releases of the OS (I loved the flight displays!) and it just feels like radio silence.

My guess is that the new strategy does not require developer outreach. Instead, it'll focus on high-touch customized service to enterprise customers. But, who knows. Maybe they think they'll be able to leverage the Android runtime into the foreseeable future and so don't have to develop the SDK as much (I think that's risky - more and more apps require Google Play Services). I'd really like to know what the long-term play is.
