The app was just updated. It didn't come with an OS update.

I feel like this is going to be a stupid question, but doesn't the mapping seem upside down? For instance I would have expected the X-C-V to correspond to the 1-2-3, and the W-E-R to correspond to the 7-8-9. Am I missing something?

As you see, numbers are mapped accordingly to the virtual screen keys. But I didn't notice till now.

This is another screen shot from within Calc, this time on the Tips screen.

I've just looked at the keyboard on my work issued Blackberry Curve (which looks dinky next to my Passport) & with the exception of 0 the number layout is the same

It is to do with the fact that phones and calculators traditionally have the numbers the opposite way around. So if you want to do a touch screen calculator you put 1 at the bottom and a keyboard one has 1 at the top.

The visual hints aren't showing up for me after the update, although hitting the physical keys does work.

Calculators and keyboards have the 1 at the bottom, phones have the 1 at the top. The calculator app is the same as a typical calculator but the rest of the phone is laid out like a keyboard/phone.

The one odd thing is although the calculator layout is different all the mapping is the same as elsewhere on the Passport, except for the + and - keys.

Actually, it looks like they did two Calculator updates in two days. The very newest one does show the PK hints. The "mirrored" mapping between physical keys and the onscreen numbers is a bit annoying though.

Think although the numbers are mirrored to the keyboard I don't think BlackBerry could really do anything different.
Having the keys different in calculator would only confuse.

The symbols however seem wrong think we might get another update tomorrow?

T and Y work as () but are not displayed
M works as. But is only displayed on the main calculator screen

    +-*/??? What?

Lastly and most odd the extra on screen e that when pressed displays 2
And no its not Eulers number rounded down!

A it of a shame as the Passport has very few bugs or oddities once you get used to it it's very logical well thought out in general.

This. What's better for usability? Digit separations or letters on a calculator? BlackBerry, give us digit separations!!

Still doesn't save your tip percentage amount. Have to change the 15% everytime. Would be nice to have the option to save whatever percentage you want.

You know, I can't think of the last calculator I've used that didn't have the thousand separators.

Edit: I just checked the Icanmakeitbetter site and this was posted 7 months ago... that's kinda sad.

7 months show the type of interest that Blackberry has to make sure their phones are actually real business phones.

It takes less than a month to code thousands separator in the app and the only thing they need to do is to update it OTA (it is a simple BlackBerry Core App).

Blackberry response interest and time is trully sad.
