- Sorry to post again about the same topic, but I attempted to cancel my Passport order this morning and decided to just wait for AT&T and buy on contract as I will have this device for a while and everything will work perfectly and there is no discount for bringing my own device as far as monthly payments, I assume I would just be off - contract.
I'm currently on a grandfathered Verizon plan and put my money where my mouth is with the Passport, but I do not have any AT&T IMEI number to use besides what will come with the Passport so no LTE, etc.
I even called after I canceled my order on shopblackberry and the rep said she would submit a request, but if it doesn't go through to refuse the device and my card will be credited. I really want the Passport of course and will have a hard time refusing it. Of course it shipped later today after I tried to cancel.
What to do come Monday... I was shocked it shipped as I wasn't expecting this to be stocked until Monday.
Am I screwed since the only IMEI I will have is going to be from the Passport? Do I refuse and save over $400?
If I use the device with the Passport's IMEI number will it eventually get LTE when it is released on AT&T officially? I'd like AT&T to know I'm using a Passport anyway. I have read the main page article, but do not have access to an AT&T IMEI.
Seems like too many questions. With 100% compatibility, even if the device is unknown to AT&T at this time all of the LTE bands are there! Ugh...what to do... might just take it assuming that when they finally release it my Passport will receive LTE, visual voice, etc.
I'm assuming I will get 4G and that when AT&T does end up releasing the Passport my IMEI number will be recognized and will be auto fixed...hmm
Has anyone switched and used their Passport's IMEI number without issue (no LTE problems)? Any help or input would be appreciated... it is crunch time now!
Posted via CB1010-04-14 12:45 AMLike 0 - I may have a possible solution. I convinced my mother a while ago to get a BlackBerry Z10 and she is on AT&T. It was bought off of shopblackberry and I just checked and she is getting LTE now...
Would it be possible for me to use her IMEI if I have a problem with the Passport's while she is still using the Z10 on a different line/number? If so this would really help as I was not anticipated refusing delivery.
Please, any help as it will be delivered on Monday. Thanks again!!!

- Thanks for the replies. I am torn on whether or not to take the device on delivery. I may just use the Passport's IMEI number, but that would be assuming that I will receive LTE when the device is officially released on their network.
I was hoping that any new customers switching in like myself could comment on to whether or not this is an issue with ALL Passports. It seems with many getting their devices Tuesday that mine is a day early.
Still not sure if I would be able to use my mother's Z10 IMEI number while she is currently using it on her line/number, but seems that would be an issue with technical support.
I just don't see the issue with the phone being compatible. Not looking forward to it not working for me out of the box. I don't see why I can't have the Passport listed as my device if I take it on delivery. US carriers...
Thanks again!
Posted via CB1010-04-14 11:15 PMLike 0 - Not sure what happened to my reply, but thanks for the feedback. I am really torn as to whether or not to take delivery come Monday.
Was hoping anyone new to AT&T could chime in as I'm not sure if this is an issue with ALL Passports. I'm also assuming if I just leave it as is without LTE that when it is officially released I would receive LTE and all will be well.
Still not sure if I'd be able to use my mother's IMEI number while she is currently using it on AT&T with her Z10 on a different line/number. I would prefer my device to be listed as the Passport though, idk maybe a bit OCD.
Looks like I will have to make a decision soon and deal with technical support if I want LTE. I would take it in a heartbeat if I knew there would be no hassle and I would receive LTE out of the box like my mother's Z10 from shopblackberry.
It seems I am a bit early as many seem to be getting their back ordered devices Tuesday or later in the week.
Thanks again and of course any other input wouldn't hurt :-)

The SIM card is free and no activation fee. If you use one of their plans it is a month-by-month thingy. No 2-year minimum.
If you need to port your number over to AT&T it takes about 15 minutes if you do it in the store (make sure you are out of contract with Verizon). Their plans are much cheaper in comparison to Verizon. I am with Verizon since 2000 and it is time to move on.
Hope that helps.10-05-14 01:11 AMLike 0 - ATT loves when they get a ported number from VZW. It's not like they get a new customer it's like they stole one from their nemesis. So when you get the phone go into any store and initiate service through a port. You will only get 4G on the Passport. Then go home call customer care and ask to speak to a level 2 or 3 tech. Explain that you are a new customer just coming over from VZW. Your device is so new that the IMEI is not in their system and could they keep you happy as a new, paying customer by putting in a dummy IMEI until their system catches up to you. Be nice, not demanding but remember in the end you are a new, paying customer who is control. If it does not work with that particular person wait an hour and repeat.
I know this to work. I ported my number and did exactly the above and I have LTE everywhere.
Now, stop worrying so much and enjoy the anticipatory excitement of your new Passport. It is worth it.

This....be very nice and like MGO said talk to a level 2 or 3 person. I was told that they had a policy change and dummy IMEI was not allowed, but that could have been their first line of defense in saying no. The IMEI from your mothers Z10 would work, but I am not sure if they will allow the same IMEI on 2 accounts (probably, but you should ask them). If so that would be an easy fix.
The speed issue is not that big of a deal if you have wifi access at your home and work. I got by on my Z30 for 9 months with 4G only and it was not bad. If AT&T does not help for some reason, their system will finally catch up in a couple months and they will most likely support LTE with the original IMEI. If it were me, I would accept the device and enjoy it either way. The experience is great.
I hope you are a new owner on Monday.10-05-14 08:41 AMLike 0 - Saw this while browsing the forums:Here's how to ensure you get LTE on your BlackBerry Passport while using AT&T | CrackBerry.com10-05-14 10:39 AMLike 0
- You guys are right. I am worrying too much. All of my excitement turned into me going back and forth about whether or not to accept the device and that's all I can think about because of this IMEI number issue lol. I thought of just waiting on AT&T for price and full LTE, but would rather be out of contract anyway (even though carriers have been paying people off).
It seems like I will be able to get LTE with tech support, but if not I could wait it out for LTE when they get around to releasing the Passport. I need to get that excitement back, I love the Passport from what I have seen and can't wait to get it, hopefully tomorrow.
I will be attempting to contact AT&T today regarding this and a company discount. One other thing I thought of for those that are using another phone's IMEI number and are paying for insurance, wouldn't AT&T not recognize that your device is a Passport if lost or stolen and you would get stuck with a replacement of whatever device they have you using? Or does their insurance not cover BYOD devices? Just food for thought.
I'm now leaning towards accepting the device, just using the Passport's IMEI number until they fix this for LTE and enjoying the Passport. Wondering if I should get insurance on it since it is BYOD. Guess I will ask when I call in a few.
Thanks for the encouragement lol... I do have full LTE in my area on AT&T so it just kinda soured everything.

Posted via CB10 on the awesome Passport10-05-14 10:53 AMLike 0 - Please pay attention to what I said. Do not visit the store without the device. No real point. Wait. Get your phone. Walk into ATT with phone in hand. Tell them you are a Verizon customer and the only reason you are switching is to use this wonderful device. It is their job to make you a happy customer. Ask about plans and costs and then with your number ported, leave the store with your phone working on 4G. Then call Customer Service with your phone in hand and ATT SIM in the phone. Ask for a Level 2 or 3 tech and then follow instructions above to ask for them to enable your LTE device. If they are clueless have them ask a senior tech if they might put in a dummy IMEI to make sure you remain a happy ex VZW customer. They are very sensitive to new customers that have been stolen from VZW. This works very well and I have done it several times with other phones and did it with my Passport. Do not muck it up by getting angry or overly anxious.10-05-14 11:32 AMLike 0

Here is the thing (and that goes for Verizon as well). Go to an AT&T store. Not a third party supplier. AT&T requires in smaller letters "Authorized Retailer" underneath the big At&T sign. Verizon requires the line "Authorized Retailer" and the company name of the franchise. It is very easy to overlook and a lot of people end up in franchise stores. The customer service in the corporate stores is much better and they have direct access to tech support. In the franchise stores they would go through a similar system like you and I would or they tell you outright "Here is the phone. Call customer service".10-05-14 12:34 PMLike 0 - Thanks again. I will take your advice and go to my AT&T store as you said and follow through with that approach. Are the stores listed on AT&T's website all official stores? We have one not too far and I have always assumed it is an official AT&T store.
I also have a company discount to apply. I am currently working so going to have to figure out how to switch from my Z30 to the Passport quick lol. I'm sure there is an article on that, likely using link I'd assume. Guess I could always accept the device, but wait until Tuesday to get all of this completed.
Thanks!!! Passport Soon!
Posted via CB1010-05-14 09:02 PMLike 0 - I don't know if this was a sign to accept the Passport, but I am so frustrated at the moment. I planned on backing up my Z30 via link last night after work and I dropped the phone and now the screen is mostly unresponsive. I am looking at the screen on the TV through HDMI and when I try to swipe up it will start showing the "up" arrows, but since I have a picture password I can't connect to link. I have spoken with multiple reps about this because the primary issue is all of my passwords are on BB's Password Keeper and I desperately need them.
They told me if I had a numeric password I could just type it into the computer. They are referring me to Verizon as well, but I will be cancelling with them so they aren't going to help unless I wait to cancel. I did post in the Z30 forum regarding this. Does anybody know if when I put my BBID in the Passport the Password Keeper will transfer with the BBID? One of the reps said it should, but I was under the assumption that it was an app based on that device and it would not as another rep had said! Maybe start another thread asking this?10-06-14 07:22 AMLike 0 - I just switched my Z30 to AT&T and I get 4g and lte.I even picked p up some native att apps. the phones IMEI is all you need. the lady at att gave me an att sim card and away I went. my number ported in about 2 minutes. goodbye Verizon after 12 years.

10-06-14 02:55 PMLike 0 - Haha, I have been with Verizon since the release of the first BB Storm... then went Android... now back again since the Z10 launch. Hopefully all goes well. Looks like we will see tomorrow as I have work in a few hours and have an issue with my Z30 screen and need to get my passwords asap off of the phone, but that is another thread. We'll see how AT&T treats us :-)10-06-14 03:00 PMLike 0
- Switched today. ATT was great and easy to switch! In and Out in 30min.
My VZW Q10 IMEI worked when they put that in to get LTE. Just use that one instead of the Passport one and you'll be good to go!AnimalPak200 likes this.10-06-14 05:36 PMLike 1
