Yeah, it is nice. Probably should post the specs for the G3. Some will look them up.....others won't. So, if the Z50 does happen, I'm sure BlackBerry will make sure it's competitive. Besides , if/when it does come out, G4 will possibly be in the pipeline. I came really close to getting the G2 last year. But, still here with another Q10.

Yeah totally. Im not a fan of LG's UI or their plastic build. But the G2 screen and the G3 screen are face melting awesome. Id gladly take either one. Specs from the G3 with G2 screen would be just amazing battery life. Maybe pair it with a 3400mah. Sick

There's actually not too much difference between the G3 and the Passport in terms of specs, with some exceptions:

G3 vs Passport

CPU: Quad-core 2.5 GHz Krait 400 vs Quad-core 2.26 GHz Krait 400
GPU: Adreno 330 vs Adreno 330
MEM: 32 GB, 3 GB RAM vs 32 GB, 3 GB RAM
GLASS: Corning Gorilla Glass 3 vs Corning Gorilla Glass 3
RES: 1440 x 2560 pixels vs 1440 x 1440 pixels
BAT: 3000 mAh vs 3450 mAh battery

Camera is better on G3:
G3: 13 MP, 4160 x 3120 pixels, phase detection/laser autofocus, optical image stabilization, dual-LED (dual tone) flash
PP: 13 MP, 4128 x 3096 pixels, autofocus, optical image stabilization, LED flash

So all in all, all BlackBerry would have to do is plop in a better camera, bump up the cpu a tiny bit and expand the screen out to a 16:9 ratio, and they would pretty much have the same specs as the G3. Passport is already ahead in battery size.

Realistically id be happy with the g3's specs in the z50. That screen is well ahead of the competition, and perfectly competitive for the next year to two years.

It would be nice if the next flagship all touch had beastly specs. There's two problems:

1. BlackBerry have a history of releasing devices with specs that just don't compete.
2. There no confirmation that any new flagship touch is actually in the works.

Well I think the passport puts 1) to rest. But lets say the Z50 gets the g3 specs....thats a year since the g3 came out.....that sounds about right to me for BlackBerry.

What's the release date on the Z50?

IF it's going to be a premium device, it needs to have the "specs of the day". So if the Z50 comes out next year, the G3 specs aren't going to be all that great by then as it's already been on the market for five months now.

As of september I think a 801 chipset is pretty up to date in the flagship game, no?.....over 1080p screen with PPI over 450. 3gb of RAM....that's flagship specs in 2014.

My point being the traditional "blackberry lags waaay behind in raw specs" pretty much was debunked with the passport. If we go by that standard the Z50 will be pretty up to date as well.

But if we're being honest with ourselves the spec battle is pretty irrelevant now as all the phones are spec'd adequately. That said I would like a 1080p+ quad core all touch phone, its definitely needed asap.

While I whole heartedly agree with that sentiment, the reality of the situation is that Android's large market share has turned this into a spec competition. Sure BB10 can run just as smoothly on lower specced device as android can on on the latest and greatest. But the market has been conditioned to go after high specs with the mistaken assumption that it automatically means better performance.

Not a huge fan of LG's build quality. I'd rather they just use LG parts in specific areas such as screen and camera. Use traditional blackberry build materials and designs for the rest.

Which I think is whats happening right now.

Well, history happened for a reason. BBRY historically has a longer design verification cycle compared to the rest of the industry. As a result, the device introduced months after competitors' entry and seen outdated at the time. Besides, given that BBRY is a second to third tier customer to Qualcomm, they will only get the SOC after all the first tiers customer ( Samsung, HTC, LG, Sony, etc) having their ramp. With that, BBRY will never be the first to come out with the latest Qualcomm SOCs.

I hate to nitpick... but the 801 and Adreno 330 were only flagship in early 2014. The Galaxy S5 LTE-A model shipped with a Quad HD display and the 805 and the LG G3 LTE-A model also shipped with an 805 processor... Both backed by an Adreno 420 GPU. Both came out in the summer. The recently released Note 4, Droid Turbo, and Nexus 6 all also have 805s & 420s.

The 801 with 3gb of ram and Adreno 330 can currently be had in a $299 OnePlus One.

I do agree that the spec war is pretty crazy... but if the Z50 came out, let's say, next summer? With standard LG G3 specs (801 & 330) By then, I'd imagine pretty much everything will be running 805 & 420, with some new flagship models running 808 or 810 and Adreno 430s.
