BB10 OS is about 16 months young and I love the direction the OS is going
however the boot up time pathetic. I have a Z30 and whenever I restart I just
shake my head in complete disappointment at how long the device takes to reboot.
BlackBerry you have come much much faster.

The reason has to do with the way bb10 is built. I can't remember exactly but there are a lot of security measures taken and just the qnx runtime takes a bit longer

It doesn't take "tooooo long." What takes too long is the iOS update that I had to go through. Almost two hours to update an iPad and almost as long for the iPhone. Not to mention the fact that when I reboot my iOS device, it doesn't really feel like a true reboot and things that I had typed in the App Store are still there.

My Passport only took 50 seconds for a cold start and that's with all my apps installed

How long does it yours? My Z30 takes less than 1 min, which is very reasonable

Check if SIM Card PIN Lock is disabled, if not, disable it by going to Settings > Security and Privacy > SIM Card. If it only takes less or about 1 minute, it is normal:

The reason that it takes so long is it is checking all the OS files to make sure that none are modified. This is done to make it secure and the reason that you can't root a BB10 device.

My Z10 takes 1:45 from screen off to up-and-running, hub included.

OP - how long does your phone actually take? Just saying it takes a long time doesn't help us understand. We need a time.

Maybe, security-related services. Still, the PlayBook has the crown as the device with the slower boot-time.

Why does that bother you? do you restart your phone that often? If you do, you shouldn't... This isn't BBOS7 anymore that you have to perform battery pulls all the time.

I restart my phone 1 or 2 times a month Max...

I have been using BB 10 devices (Z10 and Z30) almost from the beginning. During this time, I have "needed" to reboot maybe 3 or 4 times. So, I don't think is an issue the time BB 10 OS takes to reboot.
BB 10 OS is not like BB 5-6 that required to reboot at least twice a week, maybe more depending on use.

If it was too fast you wouldn't believe it was a BlackBerry. They purposefully added extra time while the phone is doing nothing to keep some familiarity from the BBOS7 days...

I'm amazed at people that complain about boot times, given how infrequently they are required.

However, last time I was going back and forth with a guy (I imagine it was a guy) about this, he "won" by saying that: "what if you're in a car accident, the battery falls out as the phone tumbles around, you're somehow able to recover both and then,.. that LONG BOOT TIME could literally be the difference between life and death"

    So yeah... don't do that.
