2.4 million phones sold. That's getting pretty close to that 10 million annual target for handset profitability, though the breakdown between OS7 and BB10 will be interesting.

If this headline is true, and BlackBerry only sold 2.4 million phones in the quarter, then this is fantastic news. BlackBerry isn't going anywhere negative soon. It's other revenue streams are functioning and hardware is hanging in there. Not a winner, but not necessarily a loser either. I don't think Chen lied when he said our restructuring is behind us now. They are poised to return to profitability. Stocks will rise!

One thing to note, is that this time is the first in a while that the shipped is actually very close to the sell through.

Yeah, that's quite odd, isn't it? Shares surged momentarily, then dived a few minutes later.

That strategy does explain the shortages of the Passport for example - they're producing what they sell now.

How do you know? That would actually be quite impressive for a phone aimed squarely at enterprise combined with the fact it's a BlackBerry.

Bloomberg announced this morning as well, reports that 200000 passport units sold in 2 days. According to Bloomberg, this translates to instant profitability from the release of this device.

from the call it sounded like 1.7 mil BB10 700k OS7

they did not say how many Z3 were sold, but they said demand was outpacing supply. Chen said he'd have the numbers at the BES12 launch. he also said they weren't going to do any more runs of the 9900/Bold. i guess there's no need for that with the Classic coming.

He also said that hardware was profitable for the first time in 5 quarters.

edit. last week i noticed that a certain city employees in Toronto had 9900s. they all just got upgraded from flip phones. these are front line types. management got upgraded from Bolds to their choice of iphone, galaxy or BB10. my buddy got a z30 and is happy with it. iphone and galaxy types are a little frustrated because the phones are pretty much locked down and you can't install apps. which negates their appeal. i don't think they can even put music on their phones. haha

BBRY bought them recently but it is quite early development from what I can tell. There was no estimated release date on the press release.

    Incorrect 2.1 m phones sold
The 2.4 m was the previous quarter from the last earnings report and most likely the excess inventory they still have with some z3

Overall Sales are dropping not rising

Bb10 sales are up with bbos only accounting for 700k so double that
