Well. Went in to see about an early upgrade to a Passport. With a contract payout and cost of my z10..... I'm looking at $500.00+ before paying $200.00+ for a Passport on contract then the start up and new contract. So, around $800.00 to get a BlackBerry Passport...... looks like I wait until 2016.

That bites the berry.... big time.

This is why you don't sign contracts and buy unlocked!

In which case you can but it unlocked now and start saving your cash for next time!

I was lucky with my Z30, it was. $0 special in February but I only had my Z10 for 1 year but because I was on a corporate contract I only had to pay $10/month but I think personal is $20/month. So for $120 I had a brand new Z30 on contact.

When did you get the Z10? I'm a little surprised that your payout is so high. Did they think you were also breaking your data contract? Perhaps you are trying to upgrade before the minimum 12 months. With any luck you'll only have to wait a few months before it comes way down in price for you.

How much longer is your contract? I still have a about 8 months in mine with Bell. After that only Telus seems to be in the race for winning my business, but I have 2 unlocked phones that could go anywhere I want them to and that might be the case come spring time.

Just buy an unlocked one off shop BlackBerry and use it on your current plan. It's cheaper that way for you

It would have been cheaper to buy it on contract for me (I still owe $180 on my flextab) than buying it outright, but I would have to switch plans in order to get the subsidy. In order to get the same features I've got under one of their new plans, it would literally double my monthly bill.

Oh well, I've reserved it and will grudgingly pay full price for it. Should hopefully have it next Wednesday.

You can just buy the BlackBerry Passport outright for seven hundred dollars cash and use your BlackBerry Z10/Z30 micro-SIM < SEE CORRECTED INFORMATION BELOW > . Or pay two hundred dollars and the discounted two-year contract price of roughly two hundred fifty dollars for a total of four hundred fifty dollars. By choosing the buy-out option you save four hundred fifty dollars.

When I upgraded from BlackBerry Z10 to Q5 I bought the Q5 outright and kept the Z10 on the existing contract, and then moved the micro-SIM to my new Q5 for the less expensive price of three hundred fifty dollars plus taxes rather than break the contract and start anew.

You'd have to get a new SIM card. The Passport uses a nano-SIM, as opposed to the first-gen BB10 devices which all use micro-SIM.

Best answer so far. Buy outright and you'll just keep your current plan.

Thx everyone. Much appreciated. Talked to Rogers and I can do a contract deal for $200 but I'd have to buy the Passport in contact. I think I'll just buy outright.

    Thx for the help
