I did destroy the sim reader in my bold by using the micro sim adapters like mane people. Right now the repair shop is replacing this part.

I've seen video on youtube of people placing the micro sim into the bold without the adapter and reported it works fine. The trick is to line it up the right way. Apparently, once the battery is in and everything's tight, the sim won't slide out of place. Does anyone have experience with this? What if you drop the phone, is everything seated tightly so that a drop won't jiggle the sim out of place?

I like switching between the Q10 and bold every few weeks and don't want to have to get the regular sized sim each time I want to do this.

I do this without an adapter. There is a barrier that hold the SIM in place, and as long as it holds the SIM card down, you'll be fine. You don't have to push the SIM card all the way in--just make sure its "circuitry" is making contact with the pins.

    What carrier do you have?

    T-Mobile, but a non-TMO 9900. It's strictly a hardware thing, carrier shouldn't matter.

I also used it like that when my Z10 broke. No problems at all. The 9900 even took a small drop and the SIM didn't even move.

I have T-Mobile as well. I ask because whenever I switch phones like that, they require me to call. Maybe a bis/bes thing? I'm never able to set up my email.

I think they need to activate the bold on their side. Thoughts?

My carrier in Brazil asks the same. Another thing is that the carriers must pay a monthly fee to BBRY for the full service of all BBRY legacy devices.

I've swaped from a Z10 to a Bold some times and had no issue but the guys at my carrier told me that is important to inform a change if equipment. Dunno why.

Used small sim from my q10 and inserted into my new Bold. No problems, fired right up. Trick is to insert it the right direction and check with your best how far in and laterally to contact wires. Once it's in, it's fine...battery keeps it right. Used with ATT No problem, and again same sim moved to z10 from Bold and seemless transition. No need for sim adapters at all.

This is how I positioned the micro-sim in my 9780. You may use this as a guide.

Follow up note...just learned talking with ATT debugging with Tech Support that when I moved my mini-sim from my Q10 to my old Bold this summer and then on to my present Z10 last month, the sim worked fine in each case. Until I spoke with them today, however, the mobile hotspot feature on my Z10 would not work even though it worked fine on the Bold 9900. Merely moving the sim myself device to device seems fine...the ATT Wireless website would show my Z10 as my current device, voice and data worked, but hotspot was no-go until I just spoke with them. So must be some extra tech step they must do on their end to "complete" the process. Head's up to you....
