Update: It seems this model will be released sooner than I expected under the code names Visa and Victoria. Expected launch date? Early Q2 2015!

    Patent #8,830,667, dated September 9th, which describes a “
storable keyboard having a pivoting cover“. Read all about it here.

It's interesting that, in the revealed position, the keyboard looks like the one on the Passport.

How we know why the passport has a 3 row keyboard ;-)

Not sure if this would make bbry gain new customers, but the mechanism itself is really brilliant

I'm not sure about the 3 row keyboard yet. But other wise like it.

10,4 on the 10.3 good buddy....it may or may not have a squircle, it's to fast to tell.

Man, isn't that one of DHabrick's concepts?

    Edit: Maybe it was Ziro's?

Looking at it more, that's a pretty clever way to avoid having to use sliding elements.

Looks like this may be the long awaited successor to the Torch slider.

Honestly, as cool as it looks, it doesn't seem to offer a huge benefit, at least not in the current sketches. Like, what's it save, a half inch in length when folded. I hope/imagine there is more to this.

The "permanent" first row of keys must have a distinct function when the full keyboard is not in use.

Probably closer to 3/4", which is significant on a mobile device. It also will prevent it from looking "top heavy" (a long screen atop a little keyboard).

But what this is really all about is about doing something different. First the Passport and now this,.. it really starts to paint picture of BlackBerry as a more fervent innovator than the rest. Finally if the mechanism "feels good", then it gives it a "cool gadget" aspect.

Interesting but I still want a slider! I want the full 5 in 16:9 screen with a full keyboard that can be neatly tucked away. Highly dislike that bottom row. If they could make the whole keyboard flip out, then that would be it!

The bottom part could be a screen too and have actions/notifications kind of like the note edge. That would be really something. Maybe have the search/call/compose etc on it when the keyboard is hidden and then when the keyboard is out have all the type and go shortcuts active.

Screen looks 16:9 (definitely not square) and I can't see them doing anything less than 5 inches in size.
