Sitting on my couch tonight watching Monday Night Football, grab my Z30...try to swipe up to check an email, but nothing happens. Hold the power button down, red led comes on solid for 5 seconds, then off. No boot sequence. BB Link won't recognize it via USB on a PC. Battery was at least 50%. It just died. It was never dropped, etc.

It's on charge now, but after 20 mins = same results.

    Any other hints/options?

    Very frustrating!

    Try a Soft Reset

To perform a soft reset on the BlackBerry 10 smartphone, complete one of the following:

Press and hold the Power key for 10 seconds.
Press and hold the Volume up key and the Volume down key at the same time for 10 seconds.

I believe BlackBerry link will not identify the device if it is off. Check if you can install any autoloader.

    Thanks for the suggestions:

soft reset - nothing happens. power button down for 10 seconds, red led comes on for 5 secs, then off

    I'm looking into autoloader now.

I'm the biggest BB advocate, but things like this drive me crazy! I guess it can happen to anyone, or any piece of hardware.

PS: Installing autoloader will delete all the media and apps.

You could remove the battery yourself if it is no longer under warranty.

Yes, or a way to do a battery reset. My laptop has a non-removable battery, but it also has a tiny reset "button" on the bottom -- which I discovered when the machine seemed to die. The reset button brought it back to life. Seems to be an issue, albeit rare, with the Z30.

Thanks for the suggestions. @Blackberry Help has left a lot to be desired.

Still can't believe that its dead...not dropped, no recent changes. Really unbelievable.

Right now, it looks like autoloader is the only option. Waiting on the download.

You could try this page. Should read all the posts first. Worked for me once.

The steps on comment #10 were the ones that worked for me.

scaffme: tried that...but the phone won't stay on long enough to check for updates! Hopefully I won't have the same problem via autoloader. AHHHHH!

When I have a blackberry that I can't seem to be able to restart using Link, I use the "Update on the Web" option on the blackberry website. So far, seems to be working fine for me. Not sure why it works on the web and not via Link, but as long as it works, it makes me happy! I probably saved a dozen Z10 - Z30 that way. Give it a shot.

Just an update = nothing works...via web "check for update" or autoloader. Z30 won't stay on long enough for either of them to initiate the process. Once connected via USB, it powers on, red led for 5 - 10 seconds, then shuts off. Nothing on the screen. You can hear on the PC it establish a USB connection, then disconnect the 5 - 10 seconds later.

seems your phone is out of juice and cannot change through charging port or with your charging port. Check if you can charge through different charger or data cable.

    Can't tell for sure....

my Z10 did the same thing, took it into Bell and then sent it away , and they sent me another Z10 about 2 weeks later, no cost to me, even though it was out of warranty.

The same thing happen to my BlackBerry Q10 and to this day I haven't found a solution. I tried everything, including buying a new battery. It worked for like a day and then it just never turned on again, whether plugged or not. I have spent so much time on researching BlackBerry that I'm thinking the build quality isn't that great to be honest.

If your phone is working with new or another battery its charging related issue. You can buy battery charger like this for BlackBerry z10

I did, and it still didn't work. I also have 3 BlackBerry chargers which do work on my BlackBerry Z30.

Either way I don't want to hijack the thread. I was sort of just relating to this person's struggle.

Electronic devices die. Not trying to be rude, it's just a fact. If the device is still under warranty then just talk to Rogers or contact BlackBerry. You should be able to get it fixed or get a replacement.

See, problem solved. Glad to hear you got a new Z30 as a replacement. If you were in the US and had Verizon, you would have been out of luck because they don't have any more stock of Verizon Z30's.
