I've noticed that both my Q10 and Z10 devices seem to limit download speeds to about 5 Mbps over wi-fi. This is with my router at home and the one at work. Upload speed, however, doesn't seem limited at all, with speeds up to 25 Mbps. My Acer Aspire netbook (running GNU/Linux) and MacBook Air, on the home network, do not have the speed limitation. They'll pull down data as fast as up. I've tested both 2.4 Ghz and 5 Ghz bands, as well as 802.11g and 802.11n protocols and with QoS on/off.

Has anyone else noticed this? Any solutions?

Is this a feeling, or a measurement ?

What is interesting, to me, is that usually, if there is a disparity in download/upload speeds: the download speed is faster than the upload speed.

I'm lucky enough to have symmetric up/down speeds. The netbook and laptop achieve roughly the same up/down speeds.

Tested using Speed Tester 1.0.10.1 by Blackswan...
Residential cable modem. ISP information removed.
I get similar results on Gentoo with various online tests.
Gentoo box is minimal (dwm + st) and highly optimized.

Thanks for the recommendation. I downloaded the app and the speed was 10-14 Mbps. Interesting. I usually use speakeasy.net/speedtest and it still reports the upper limit of about 5 Mbps.

Would you mind testing with speakeasy.net/speedtest? Maybe my problem has been the testing method. Thanks.
