The upcoming BlackBerry Passport smartphone is a revolutionary, high-end BlackBerry device with innovative design & functions. If you?re not aware of it yet, the phone has 4.5? QHD display running on Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor powered by 3GB of RAM & a massive 3450mAh battery. It sports a newly designed physical keyboard which also serves as a trackpad. The phone is set to launch in BlackBerry?s ?See the Bigger Picture? event on 24th September ? 2014. Until today we haven?t received any price point but thanks to Qatar?s mega mobile store StarLink for leaking it before anyone else.

Are BlackBerry poking fun at Apple's "Think Different" campaign?

But this time using correct grammar?

I was hoping to buy it off contract. But with that price tag, I have to wait for a while or go with contract. Usually BlackBerry price go down fairly quickly due to less demand. But Passport, I don't know...

Tack on a 150 to that guaranteed. 899 off contract to start for the Passport and 699 for the Classic. BlackBerry will never learn....

In looking at other phones sold in Qatar as comparisons vs the cdn price for the same phone... I calculate 760 $ cdn. should be lower... 649 $.

749 is to much folks, 500-600 would have been a reasonable price point for this device. I will wait until the price to drop just like the z10 and z30 did.

And to think of the rubbishing that OP got on that other thread where "about $760" was reported as the price.

I wonder what the price of the iPhone6 will be?

Good to see BB has learned the lessons of history of the importance of pricing competitively to attract buyers... Oh, wait...

Blackberry doesn't care about the average consumer wanting to purchases the Passport. Any consumer who buys it is just a bonus for them. They are targeting business and will offer corporate discounts for companies that buy it in bulk.

Don't get me wrong, I think the pricing is a slap in the face to the consumers who want to buy it but the reality is that BB doesn't care if consumers buy it or not.

But most businesses use the cheaper option for blackberry devices. So that would be the curves predominantly the the q5 and z10s.
I can't see the passport being sold in bulk to businesses when those options are available.
At best I reckon a few executives may be drawn to it

The ship has sailed on those devices and if businesses were going to convert to them, they would have have by now. I mean the Z10 is dirt cheap and the Q5 isn't even mentioned anymore.

Not so much in North America where the norm at the time was the 9900 and not a Curve.

The Passport would be worth $ 760 if it were a Google compliant Android. Consumers want access to Google Play or the Apple apps store. There should be a discount for that factor alone.

I suspect that Enterprise pricing will be more competitive . BlackBerry should learn from the Amazon Fire experience.

Less than I expected it to be.... And not too much for the CEOs of the world that it has been designed for.

Name might change on the door to the CEO's office, but it's still BlackBerry!

The CEO has said he won't sell phones at a loss any more, and we have said BlackBerry need to release phones with more competitive specs.

BlackBerry is not like many other smartphone manufacturers there are few if any parts in the phone they produce themselves and so no places to save a few dollars here and there.

This is the price for the phone you wanted

So business options are buy bulk z10's or os7 devices at next to 0 cost, buy bulk passport devices at a premium cost, consumer options are buy an iphone or android device, have access to all apps you could want, spend $199 or spend nearly $800 buying a phone at full price directly from BB, a phone that won't be offered by your carrier most likely, won't be able to try one out in a store. Someone refresh my memory please.. Are any US carriers signed up for this? AT&T? I'm at a complete loss as to being able to picture who is actually going to buy this device. Don't get me wrong, when the price drops, and it will, probably soon, I'm getting one. I truly love BB10 and am anxious to try this thing out. I just can't picture who it's targeted to. it's a niche within a niche. I hope the expectations inside of BB are very very small, otherwise I fear it could trigger the end of hardware for them.
