With the current fervor over cloud hacking and whose platform does what. Why did BBRY go away from being able to hide files with OS 10.0?
Regardless of your purpose for hiding be it pictures, documents, video, other this feature should still be there. We now have to rely on apps that don't fully work and do not carry over when OS upgrades happen. You have to unlock your hidden files before upgrade and if you miss this you are subject to loosing your data.
This lost native feature should be brought back as standard. I don't see the purpose of it being left out from legacy OS 7. With extended SD card support you don't need cloud space for this if the data is zipped and hidden if need be. This would add to the strength of what BBRY is all about.

If you want to hide folders, you can use a third party file manager to do one of two things

To create a hidden folder, add a period to the beginning of the folder name. ".hidden" for example.

To stop files from being indexed (showing in media app) create a file called ".nomedia" and place inside the folder you with the files you don't want displayed
    Q10Bold likes this.

Thanks for the suggestions, but my point was to not have to go to "third party" when the capability was native in previous OS pre 10.0.

Well BB10 was built from the ground up so there are features that have been left out from those legacy devices. Give it time. A Developer will probably create a Native app for this.

IIRC hiding files in BBOS also required a 3rd party app. If you used the menu option to hide files, anyone using the menu would see the option to show whatever was hidden.

Would be nice... if Developer would add this native feature in time.
