    Hi,

I have this wacky idea of using a q10 and an ipad mini (wifi only) together. the q10 will have a normal smartphone data plan and I will share that through bluetooth to my ipad mini constantly when on the go. They will both be connected to local wireless routers when at home or in the office.

the q10 will be used as my messaging device (I really miss the physical keyboard) and the ipad for apps.

    question:
1-anyone tried this setup? is the connection over bluetooth stable? and fast?
2-how much battery drain will it cause the q10?

I'm aware that there are better options out there; but I want to know your feedback on this before i purchase either of the products.

    thanks!

Shouldn't be enough drain for you to notice, BT on BB10 is very battery-friedly and the scenario you propose doesn't seem like it will tax the Q10 much.

One thing... Are you sure you can share internet via bluetooth? I know you can via hotspot - and that would cost your battery a fair bit.

Thanks for your response. It is called 'bluetooth tethering' on my android right now (kitkat). This bb doc page says the q10 has this feature in 'internet tethering' over WIFI or bluetooth option.

How much battery drain is a constant bluetooth data sharing from a q10?-img_20140903_152826.png

Quite so. This should eat the battery just as much as a mobile hotspot if you use the tablet too frequently. And your data plan allowance will be depleated twice as fast.

    But yeah, it should work.

I just started using this feature with my iPad Air. I noticed that it uses less battery than tethering hotspot. Actually I was just about to try to discover how to use BlackBerry blend. Haha. then poof discovered bluetooth tethering.

Hi darwin, can you give us an update on how practical your current setup is?

My battery drain using bluetooth tethering drains quite less compare to using my BlackBerry as hotspot. It. Eats up like regular standby mode use while using a bluetooth headset. Except if you use a device tethered via bluetooth and you start downloading stuffs. Still it's lesser than using wifi hotspot. Like and additional 20-30% juice compared to wifi hotspot.
