So just upgraded my 4.2 inch Z10 to my sexy new 5 inch Z30! Love everything about it so far, build quality,big screen, amazing speakers,and great battery life are the first things I've notice regularly, and loving it!

However...the other thing thats hard to ignore is the screen clarity and brightness. My Z10 clearly has the better resolution and clarity.

Obviously we all know that the Z30 has 1280x720 resolution at 295 ppi, where as the Z10 has 1280x768, at 356 ppi. I've had them side by side, and it's absolutely noticeable!
My Z10 at 75% brightness is the same as my Z30 at 100%. Is it JUST the brightness that I'm noticing, I feel the letters appear "crisper" with the Z10?

So why is this the case? I'm sure their is some reasoning behind it? Absolutely love my Z30; but was a little spoiled with how sexy the Z10 Screen was! Anyone else feel a little disappointed with the lower resolution n ppi or am I just being a little over the top?
Just looking at the competition, and 350-450 seems to be the norm amongst the elite high end devices but does it even matter?

According to ppi.com "The human eye cannot distinguish the difference in PPI when the figure reaches a saturation point of about 250ppi to 300ppi at the most. So 300 ppi phones have the optimum resolution for mobile smart phones, having a ppi of more than 300ppi will not make any difference to normal human eye vision, you will need a magnifying glass to see the subtle differences".

Would like to hear some observations and opinions ; PS, my Z30 rocks!

Z30 is OLED, Z10 is LCD. There. Cat is out of the box (again hehe, nothing new here).

I find that the less bright OLED screen hurts my tired eyes far less than the Z10's mega blaster sun light like screen. It's a bonus for me, but I can see people not liking it.

As for resolution, you get used to it in less time than you expect. It's not like we need the extra PPI...

Yeah don't think it's a big difference; but now that I have my Z30 just something I've noticed, although after a few minutes you forget anyway.
Also 300 seems to be the max the human eye can see, so what's the point of 450 ppi!? Just to try and "pad the specs"?

Then you see tech writers who talk about it like it's a top priority.

The PASSPORT appears to be rocking 1440x1440 resolution ? meaning a pixel density of 453!

Totally noticed it when I moved from the z10 to the z30. It's a bit disappointing when compared to some of the killer displays out there but you get used to it and you have to appreciate the whole package. I do look forward to a similar from factor with an improved display.

..so am I understanding you correctly by interpreting that the OLED screen is simply less bright than the LCD screen, and that the noticeable difference between the two devices is not related to ppi?
If that's the case, can the OLED screens be made brighter to compensate for those of us who like the brightest screen? And also, why bother having a higher ppi [480] AND the LCD on the new Passport if the determining factor in screen clarity is the LCD advantage?
Or, are there other factors at play that determine screen clarity/ brightness??

I made the switch to the z30 and I noticed it but barely.

I still use both phones as I have the 10.3 leak loaded on the z10 and I wouldn't go back for the small difference in display.

Z30 screen is absolutely terrible. Pretty sad for a so called flagship device.

In one word, it's noticeable when comparing with the other flagship android devices but if u only use this one, I think my eyes will forget about its lower ppi and get used to it.

I used to be into the whole specification routine when it came to buying a new device, but I went out and bought a z30 100-5 model from a Canadian seller and I couldn't be happier.

I use my device for my business and I don't watch movies, play games or use it as a 35mm digital camera. I use it for my email, messaging and social apps and I find the screen to be bright enough and big enough for the these functions and I have had many high end devices over the past few years.

Now that I have 10.3.0.1052 installed on it, the device is a totally different machine. Nice up to date interface and cool new features that in my opinion puts my z30 on par with anything I have used up to now. I can't wait for the unlocked version of the passport to be released, but in the mean time, I am loving my z30 and not looking back.

I see "my" Z10 almost everyday. My Z30 is always set at 40% brightness. The Z10 is always so dark and below 25%.

Your wording is a little off, but I usually always have my battery between 60-100%, anything less is too dark for me.

Although I can't tell pixels from each other when comparing 720p vs 1080p at the same physical size, the extra pixels still affect the clarity of fonts overall.

I use font size 6 on my z10 to display more info on that just-a-little-too-small screen. I'm not sure if extra pixels would help, or if font size 6 was nearly scaled down versus being actually drawn. In any case, font size 6 on the z10 is blurry and sucks.
