    Here is the article:

Amazon has sold no more than 35,000 Fire phones, data suggests | Technology | theguardian.com

basically people dont seem to want it for various reasons, but the 35 000 number in about a month is still labelled as modest. Sure, it is the first phone from amazon, but so was the original kindle. BB10 was drastically different, almost like starting over. How many BB10 phones were sold in the first 3 months to label it a failure? *hint, CNET says about 2.7 million, so lets say even 750 000 at a low end per month. that is TWENTY (20) times more than Fire Phone.

What do you think of Fire Phone? Does this show that BB10 actually did well for a brand new OS trying to get people to change from what they are used to?

FirePhone was launched on a single carrier in one nation while BB10 had an international launch on multiple networks. The 20 times comparison is grossly exaggerates FirePhone's lackluster performance.

Also, Blackberry indeed fared poorly. BB10 fared worse than any analyst and the company's conceivable expectations. I recall CGK always made sales projection threads and even the most pessimistic "troll" on Crackberry projected sales multiple times actual unit sales. If expectations had been in line, there would not have been a billion dollar Z10 writedown.

I think Windows Phone is actually a good benchmark for BB10 success. An important aspect to note is that Blackberry was a smartphone veteran with a large retail channel and tens of millions of subscribers. Microsoft, while having greater OEM partners and more capital, had fewer distribution channels and no subscriber base and Windows Phone 7 greatly outperformed BB10.

If Blackberry had its stuff together, it should have been able to outsell Windows Phone by multiple times even if it never reached iPhone like numbers. Instead, the Z10/BB10 launch was plagued by software bugs, high price, uncoordinated rollout, poor marketing, low hardware specs, etc. Basically everything that could go wrong with the BB10 launch did.

(Let's not pretend anyone thinks Microsoft is super competent simply for the sake of defending Blackberry and then reverting to Microsoft bashing after.)

Just to be clear, windows did have a subscriber base, windows mobile, peaking at 42% market share in '07. Both Windows mobile and BBos were around competing at the same time, the only difference is that Microsoft brought their next Gen os to market first.
