Thought this might be worth throwing it out there that 10.3 sofar has fixed both my dad's Dell XPS (the L251X or something like that model) 15's issue with BSOD every time he plugs his BB10 phone into the laptop. Anything prior to 10.3 would require you to use a USB Hub that would downgrade the connection to 2.0 (it only has PowerShare USB 3.0 (x3) and a single PowerShare USB 2.0 (x1) port). So any USB 3.0 docking station or 4-port USB 2.0 splitter would work wonders.

Also worth noting on my XPS 15 (9530), On my machine it wasn't a BSOD, just that Blackberry Device Manager would never detect a phone connected to the system. As soon as I upgraded after a SIC wipe to 10.3.0.1052 via my old laptop, the new system instantly recognized the phone! Now I only need the one computer (freaking amazing!!)

Not sure where else to put this(I'm sorry if it's the wrong place), but I know I've spend countless hours researching this stuff trying to find a way to get it to work for Dell XPS systems, so I want this somewhere indexed by Google but accessible for other BB10 users!

Okay new question!

So I originally had this XPS 15 Windows 8.1 laptop not recognizing my BB10 when connected via USB 3.0 or whenever power sharing was enabled, but the device would then get the full 2.1A connection that USB 3.0 outputs.

Now, my device only gets the 500mA a normal USB gets when connected because the computer actually recognizes the device, which is good for data use, but when I want to charge it in a hurry and I don't have a Playbook charger around, it's a pain..

So does anyone know how to make the laptop/Windows output the full amperage available to a USB device?
It's got to be somehow possible :/

yeah seems that link will now recognize the device with usb 3.0 and you can back up restore sync now +++

The BB10 device knows it can draw the higher charge amps when the two data pins of the USB port are connected together. In other words, if your phone signals on one of the data lines and receives it back on the other then it knows it can pull the higher amps.

You can achieve this by making a USB cable or connector with the two center pins connected. Beware though, your PC or hub might not be happy about this as it is expecting to only deliver a max of 500ma on any USB port. That said, I've successfully done this with an HP desktop.
