    The file size has increased from 10.2 and is now unable to be deinstalled? Can anyone confirm?

    Battery life, security. I don't know why OP would do it unless he really doesn't like android apps

    Battery and security are reasons enough. I do not run Android apps and would rather fill up device memory with pictures of my kids. Yes, I have a media card but that is not the point. If confirmed, I might as well autoload 1055 and remove all the permanent apps which annoy me and then upgrade again...

    Turn on development mode and reSideload the android bar using chrome bb10 app manager. After you do that, there should be a check box beside the listing that allows you to uninstall it.

    I can understand the security part, but if you aren't running any android apps you shouldn't have any thing to worry about. As for memory, the runtime is only like 100mb. That's not going to make much of a difference in the end.

    If you are running with no runtime did you see a difference in battery life? On a Z30 I can go a full day no issue. Z10 I could see having issues with battery, I know I did when I ran one as a daily driver.

    @RADEoN1337: It is more like compiling a kernel without hypervisor support:

    # CONFIG_HYPERVISOR_GUEST is not set

    While Xen and similar hypervisors continue to be developed and improved, if one does not plan on using them and chooses to compile them out of the kernel, does that constitute going back in time? Not in the least.

    @mrjmc99: All good, bro. Thanks.

    BlackBerry has officially stated that the Android runtime is tightly integrated, and cannot be removed.

    Perhaps there one day will be a hack to allow it, but it might cause other issues...

    If you don't use it, don't worry about it. No security issues.

    It's a part of the os. If you don't like it. I hear there's a minimal customization option coming out. I think it's called an iPhone. Enjoy your background being the only thing you can change

    Part of the OS? Certainly not the Core OS. That said, the Android runtime can be considered a user space application similar to Open JDK (or JRE). If you do not run Java applications, then why would you need Open JDK installed? Why not remove it to eliminate an attack surface and reduce resource consumption at the same time?

    By falling back to 10.2.1.1055, removing undesired components and then non-destructively upgrading back to 10.3.x.xxx, you can save upwards of 900MB in installation footprint, lower memory/CPU usage (hence improving battery life) and reduce the prospect of downtime caused by regressions in said removed applications. Less is more as is often the case with anything related to code. This includes the Android runtime.

    With regards to your minimally customizable issue with iPhone, it can always be jailbroken to provide a plethora of customization options. Though the practice is not recommended for obvious reasons, jailbroken iOS devices are allowed for on BES 10 (which speaks to the relevance of jailbroken devices).

    Older versions of the runtime were certainly uninstallable. The latest ones are coded as permanent in the manifest. That said, I'm not sure if 10.3 renders them uninstallable regardless of the manifest. May try it just for kicks then reload the 1052 version.

    I render 6/10 second uncompressed videos at 1,8GB so this "upwards of 400MB" argument sounds so extra to me, but you eat your kinder egg and throw away that surprise sis

    This seems like a lot of work to remove something that does not impact your device regardless if you use it or not. 200mb is such a trivial amount of memory and you are going to run into performance problems long before that 200 mb saved is going to do anything for you if you use that much device memory.
