I just want to share my toughts about this elusive device with you guys. So, it is rumored to be a 5'' or 4.7'' inches. It seems it will be the Z3 on steroids and that means:
    - the same form factor
    - different cpu (Z30 cpu)
    - different gpu (Z30 gpu)
    - 4G or LTE (as the Z30)
    - the same 2500 mah battery
    - 2 GB of RAM (as the Z30)

So, my point is: if it is a Z30 in a Z3 body or a Z3 with the internal specs of a Z30 what's the point of releasing such device?
If it will come with 16 GB of internal storage will be exactly a Z30 (but with worst build quality) meanwhile if it will come with 8GB it will look like a sort of downgrade..
Right now you can find a new Z30 for 350 USD on shopblackberry.com. If the Z20 will come out with ~300 USD why BlackBerry think someone will buy it?!?
If it is gonna be a revamped Z3 it should be priced around 175$ at launch if they want to sell imho..

Sadly if it has the same specs as the Z30 then you may as well grab a Z30 now.

I'm still hoping for at least 1080p and a step up on the processor.

This is only supposed to be a upgrade from the z10 not the z30... the upgrade from the z30 comes out in 2015

I really think it will be a Samsung Alfa and Iphone 6 contender. High specs in a compact body... or that's what I hope.

I'm hoping for a 4.7" screen with less screen bezel so that the phone won't be too large. The resolution needs to be 350 PPI or above and the battery life should be close to 14 hours or more. Those are the hardware specs I care about, but it definitely should not have less specs than the Z10 if this is a Z20 instead of a Z3 for other markets besides emerging.

It sounds interesting and I love having full touch but i'm thinking of grabbing a passport due to the innovative keyboard...
Will try it out in store first of course though...

The way I see it, the Z30 is an excellent award winning device. It would not surprise me to see BB tweak and repackage it as the Z20 which indeed, would be an upgrade from a Z10. This would give them the room to move the current Z30 upmarket into the rumored Z50 territory. The Classic essentially replaces the Q10 with a more enterprise user friendly "toolbelt" design. The Passport, of course, takes BB into an entirely new space in mobile computing. That would create two very nice touchscreen devices and two very nice Qwerty devices for the North American market.

Personally, I think the Z10 needs an upgrade (and BB can find plenty of revenue just selling upgrades to Z10 users). It's been almost 2 years that this device has been on the market, and while it's awesome (min is still humming away with minimal lag) it is quite slow loading Android applications. If BB wants to leverage the Amazon app store and encourage people to download Android apps, they're going to need something with a bit more horsepower.

I think that it needs to keep the same form factor and screen size as the current Z10. Honestly, the screen on it is beautiful and it really doesn't need a bump up to 1080p. The benefits are huge by keeping it at 1280x720: better battery life, smaller apps and faster downloads (because images and content is smaller in size). It's a 4" screen -- nobody needs the pixels to be double-invisible. This is just my opinion and is based on the strategy of using the Z20 as primarily an upsell for Z10 users rather than a device that's going to attract people from other brands and the phablets that are becoming wildly popular -- that's where the Z30 successor needs to stand out (and THAT should be 1080p to compete).

Slightly bigger screen, even 0.2", will make me happy. 1080p is a must. And the cpu needs to be better than the z30's.

    2500+ mAH.

All this and I'm buying. Otherwise I don't know what I'm going to do.

    Actually I do know. It's a z50 or android.

I don't understand. Are you buying the device or the OS/experience? A Z30 is plenty quick, are you doing any CPU-intensive calculations on your device? And why would there be a choice between a Z50 and Android (which is an OS)?

    Just wondering, on a 4.2 - 4.5" screen, can you really tell a 720p and 1080p apart? I remember when 30" tv's were 720p...

If the Z20 matched the new Samsung Alpha but comes in at a lower price point that would be super.

Note screen size, PPI and body dimensions.

My impression is that the Z20 will likely be pushing a screen size somewhere around 4.8 inches. With smaller bezels, it would still be perfectly Okay for smaller hands. In the end, BlackBerry will have to fashion it as a value phone and that comes with compromises. A slight improvement on Z30 internals minus the mini HDMI. A price point of 350 dollars would catch people's attention. BlackBerry can compete at this price with Samsung. While the S5 is a good phone, the cheaper Samsung's are plagued with hardware / software issues. So there is a market out there to be tapped.

LOL - Let me stop you right there. There is no "new device" in the sense of what you're inferring.

The Z20 is the Z3 LTE re-branded for NA launch.

Slight redesign to the back, LCD 720x1280, slightly bumped specs internally - but that's it.

That will work if it sells for a low price.

I have faith in Foxconn to make a good device.

My main question is : Who will buy this phone ??
Those who already have a Z10/30 will not buy this because it isn't an upgrade. And those who have an Android or iOS will not buy a Blackberry. And if they want to, the Nexus 6 will be released at the same time and nearly at the same price but with specs that Blackberry can just dream about!
And after reading the BB10 OS thread, no one can say that BB10 doesn't need high specs.
I really don't understand the strategy.

The Nexus 6 will likely be sold for $349 to $400. The Z20 would have to undercut that price enough to become a top prepaid unlocked phone of choice. Both Enterprise and consumers like the good but cheap strategy.

A Z20 is supposed to be a high-end device. Taking this into account, Z30 specs are not valid.

The correct approach in my opinion is to use Passport hardware specifications, as it has already been tested.

I would love this ! Really. But everyone say "The Z20 is just a Z3 LTE with Z30 specs".

    Can't wait. I really want a BB. But I want a serious phone. Not a low-end one.

    For me, a Z3 LTE with Z30 specs is a low-end phone.

As I said, we are expecting Z20/Z50 with at least Passport specs. That would make sense.
