Got a z30 sta100-5 from shopblackberry last week. Using it on T-Mobile usa. So far so good, except I've noticed I might have 3 bars while the phone is sitting on the table, but when I pick it up and hold it, it usually drops a bar or two. Is this normal? Hadn't noticed this with a z10 or any other phone I've used. Just the z30. Would be interested to hear if anyone else notices this or has an idea on why it would do this.

I think such behaviour is normal... because every mobile phone has such problems... so stay calm... try a phone call with an IPhone on T-Mobile and with your z30 and watch the bars... then there must be a different behaviour... at the same place... maybe in some region with no good reception

Thanks for the info. Definitely not panicking. The Z30 is a great phone. It's just "interesting" to see it sit next to me with 3 or 4 bars and when I pick it up, it drops a bar or two. I thought maybe I just had an electric personality (lol) and was interfering with the signal. And I don't have to even make a call, just pick it up. It is interesting though that I did notice the bars when making a call. Seems on previous phones, when I made or received a call, the bars would go up, like the phone was dedicating more power to the signal. But with the z30, it actually stays constant or drops a bar when I make or receive a call. Maybe it has to do with me picking it up too. Just passing along what I've noticed.

    Thanks again.

There is an optimal angle for reception, based on your placement relative to the cell tower radiative elements, so based on where you are it sees a less attenuated signal when at horizontal (seems a bit weird).

In any case, the "bar signal indicator" fluctuations can be due to when the device refreshes the displayed value. I would only really be concerned if you experience dropped calls or data transfer problems.

The bars dont tell the whole story and I would not worry about it!! As long as you have a signal call quality will be fine. Actually very fine on a Z30 thats why I want one.

The z10 was also great... but the Q5 is not as powerful as z10/30... the Q10 I don't know
