I really like the flat look. I like it on iOS7 too, but I don't like their candy colored theme.

The new BlackBerry World icon looks nice. I'm looking forward to the rest of the icons looking like that.

I can't stand flat UIs either. Looks like something any kid could do with MS Paint. Makes even a premium device look cheap and tacky.

The point is looks fresh and new. People update their phones every year or two why should an os not change their looks as well? The flat design does look clean and modern compared to drop shadows and mini 3-D stuff.

Use a black wallpaper and the grey boxes disappear. I completely covered the camera lens and took a pic, which resulted in a totally black pic. I just used this one as my wallpaper.

I'm not a fan of the flat look either. I think the BlackBerry World Icon looks terrible since the update yesterday.

But, it's a design trend and this too shall pass.

Back in the Windows 3.1 days, we had the flat look because computers weren't powerful enough to do much else. We evolved the UI aesthetic over the years to match what the hardware could push. Windows 9x brought the 3D effect, then Windows XP brought the skinned effect and Windows Vista and 7 brought the hardware accelerated glass effect. Fast forward to 2014, in an age where specs are marketed as the end-all-be-all of choosing a device, we raise the specs but take the interface back to Windows 3.1 days. What's the point of having powerful devices with quad-core GPU to display little more than blocks of colours? No gradients, no shadows, no sense of depth. It's puzzling. Who exactly dictates what looks good? Maybe it's Apple. After all, they convinced everyone that you needed an individual app to view web content that people have been consuming in a single browser for years.

I like the flat look. If the redesign would make the whole OS much more consistent and easier to use, then go ahead.

If it's not the area where one should waste time developing, then it is not the area where one should be complaining about.

Flat or not, it makes no difference to me. And after a month with the new OS, you won't even notice the icons.
