Could be the phone you're using, my ATIV S runs BBM just fine.

Kind of a bummer. Not just for me but for BlackBerry in general. Apparently the 520/521 were the best selling models so they are everywhere.

It is but BlackBerry have committed themselves to future updates with v2 in the works so hopefully they will improve performance for the 520/521

I definitely hope so. I want BBM to continue to grow, I just worry about releasing something that's so doggy on so many phones. I've loaded it on a second, brand new, never been opened 521 and had the same experience.

I have a question for you guys running the Windows Phone version of BBM. Is there some requirement to keep the app running (open/minimized or whatever the equivalent is on WP8) or can you actually "back out" to close the app and still continue to receive messages? I'm asking because there is this whole thing that you need to keep the BBM icon active on Android phones, so I wanted to know if there's any such thing on WP8 or not.

That's interesting. I'm trying to send messages to a contact of mine in WP8 BBM and they're not getting it delivered, so it must be something else. Thanks for clarifying! And as for both closed beta and open beta versions running, I'm guessing they're running on 2 separate email IDs? Because I can easily how they're published as 2 separate apps on the Marketplace.

Define garbage...literally so awful you would throw it out as opposed to using it again or just disappointed it wasn't better from the start?

Yes they are running on 2 different BBID, open beta is smother when opening than closed beta but both are running good on my L920. Like the UI and seems very natural for WP users.

As in throw it out. Hours later I still don't have messages from my daughter.

Every time we open the app it spins at "Setting up BBM" again, sometimes taking 2 minutes to open. Then once it opens, it shows no contacts or chats. Of course she has 22 contacts and 2 groups. If it does show contacts and chats, it can take a minute to open a chat (I'm reproducing this as I type).

I don't use the term garbage lightly. I've tried this on two phones. It's really incredible.

It's a beta version. It's going to take a few updates to stabalize.
