About to get a Z30 to complement my Q10.

I have always got the Otterbox cases for all of my past phones, and I am just wondering which Otterbox case the owners prefer?

I have a commuter case for my Q10, and it has a loose charging port flap. Is this ever an issue with the Z30 Otterbox cases after months of usage?

I've had my Commuter case for a while now and the flap is still nice and rigid. It's been relegated to my drawer in favor of my Blue Transform case for the Commuter being a bit too bulky for me. I'd definitely recommend it over the Defender though.

I bought the Defender case but it made my Z30 much too big to carry around in my pocket. After 2 weeks of using it, I switched it for a simple gel cover.

I have the Commuter and a piece of the plastic right here broke off somehow. It makes the rubber casing looser, which is annoying when I hold the device.

I liked the case though, so I've ordered another.

This broken tab actually made it easier to plug in chargers and hdmi.

    It's a definitely a design flaw.

But if you're hard on your phones like me then you can't beat the otter box!

Both add too much bulk IMHO, ended up with the transform but that's slippery as well.
Have decided on caseless again and ordered a skin

I prefer the commuter. I work at a barn on the weekends and have never needed a bulky defender. If your super rough on your device you may want to consider it, but for 95% of the population a commuter is enough.

For the commuter owners, is the charging port flap getting loose ever an issue?

For the Defender owners, how is the integrated screen protector on it? I have only used the stick on screen protectors before so I am not too sure how well the defender screen protector would work. Is the dust getting under the screen protector a frequent problem?

Nope. The flap for the charger never got loose for me, it always held in nicely until that little plastic piece broke off.

Just make sure u trim the usb connector, otherwise u will break that tiny plastic near the charge port, and the flip will not close tight anymore. It happened on my commuter case.

Commuter, regardless of the plastic piece near the flap.

I became wary of the Otterbox Defender case in my Z10 days because the case interfered with bezel swiping. Now with the Z30 I use a simple gel case. Its thin yet it adds just enough size to the phone to make it "less likely to slip out of my hand-able".

I have the commuter on right now, and although it is a little bulky it offers the best protection without being a defender style.

Commuter gives you the best protection with the least amount of bulk compared to the defender.

I use the defender on weekends and a tpu case during workweek. I use a screen protector so I took off the defender screen. It adds bulk, but having replaced one screen already, and spending so much non working time chasing kids around hockey arenas, soccer fields and campgrounds... I like the extra protection.

Well, I just feel more comfortable with the protection given by the defender (read I don't carry insurance). I suppose the integrated screen protector has some effect on swiping, e.g. it is sometimes hard to pull down the quick view and apps menus but not too bad. You just have to be a little more deliberate. If you have the VZW model, the Qi charging works through the defender case. I don't have a dust problem.

How did you go about trimming it? I've noticed that on the new Commuter, the USB is harder to plug in, and also the rubber inner case has a different design on the inside.

Just use a cutter to trim the top of the USB connector of your usb cable. Just cut some plastic out at an angle so that it fits without pushing up on the thin hard plastic on the case

I broke off that annoying *** piece of plastic. Makes charging and connecting to TV via hdmi much much easier. For once a great design flaw. Wonder how much better the Defender is compared to the Commuter...?

I have the Defender. My last BB 9850 took a tumble down the interstate when my wife tried to answer a call while we were riding our Harley! It flipped, tumbled and slide for what seemed like forever! We went back to get it and it still worked fine. (the case was in bad shape) I ordered a new Defender case when I got my Z30, not taking any chances! It adds bulk to the phone, but it is worth the money!

If you go to the Otterbox website and fill out a replacement request, they will send you a new commuter case at no charge. You just have to submit a picture. They send me a new case at no charge...

I have a commuter, it, in my opinion, is way better than the defender.

Otterbox has superior customer relations. Call them, they'll likely send one to you at no charge.
