So I just got the soon-to-be-discontinued Q5 from Telus for $150. I thought it would be a great phone for the price, and solid to boot.

Fast forward to four days later, and my phone begins to heat up unexpectedly while at work. I have my phone in my pocket in a gel case, so I just assumed it wasn't getting enough ventilation (it was fairly hot out today). I took the case off and the phone began to cool again. Every time the phone heats up, a good chunk of the battery life goes with it. Even out of the gel case, the Q5 heats up when idle today. I've counted at least three instances of it today alone.

Previously, I would only lose 5% over the course of 7 hours (overnight), but now I'm losing 6-7% in the space of under two hours. I've tried rebooting, and I'm considering factory restoring and even returning the phone while I still have the chance.

Also worth noting is that I have Snap and Apex Launcher installed. If anyone can give me a solution to the heat and drainage problems, that would be great!

It could be many problems... Perhaps network, maybe your network signal unstable. or some apps working overload in the background and went berserk. Do you update your os? Perhaps that's the problem too.

Exactly the same issue with mine. Running on 10.2.1.2977. This has happened a couple of times in the last month or so. The device monitor would indicate higher battery usage for system and PIM services.
I generally cool the phone down and stick it back on charge for 20 minutes to sort it. An obvious issue with the Q5.

It could be contact or email sync, try increasing the sync duration.

I have the same problem with my Q5. Have narrowed it down to what seems to be a power management issue with BBM application. Device Monitor tells me BM has used 34% battery power today, even though I only sent and received two BBM messages all day!
Power off and reboot seems to resolve for a few days...

*Update* Sorted. I have deleted all mail, calender and contacts accounts. Re-install and select manual sync for them all (especially contacts). No more battery drain when not connected to Wifi and phone getting stuck in sync function. Hope this helps anyone with the same issue.
