    I keep hearing people say that they stopped using BBM on DROID and IOS because it uses too much data.

    Is this true?

    i'm not sure, but i think its cause you need to leave the app running to get your notifications maybe thats why

    The two biggest reasons was poor optimization and the random crashes. It would eat up battery like no tomorrow.

    Bbm was a resource hog at first. But there has been several updates that have improved it's resource usage quite significantly.
    I also no longer have leave the app open like I did at first. I can swipe the app closed an it will work as well as it does on bb10.
    There is a world of difference between using bbm on Android and Skype. Skype is just awful, works better on bb10 then on Android.
    The only app that comes close to bbm is hangouts
