Doubt it judging by previous comments coming out of Samsung. What would make more sense to everyone involved is a BlackBerry/Samsung alliance a la Apple/IBM, this would give Samsung a much bigger edge in Enterprise that BB could profit from while still maintaining their independence.

news like this (if it gains any steam in the next month or so) could cause people to hold off on buying forthcoming phones (passport / classic) in anticipation of new devices.

Unless Samsung shuts down BBRY's device business I don't see user holding off... to the contrary, IMHO a lot of people would feel more confident about buying one of the upcoming BlackBerry devices...

Many would wait to see a Samsung device running BB10. Just my opinion, but who knows.

Highly doubt it. If they do buy it, it's probably bye bye BB10 and the hardware divisions. They'll probably want the patents, government contracts and maybe BBM.

Samsung can't just make a BlackBerry 10 phone, as they are part of the OHA. One of the conditions is that they may not make any phones running a forked version of Android (ie. runtime in BB10).

Everything's for sale. Just have to find the right price.

I doubt this is real. Why not buy it when it was going under? Why wait until it's recovering if the only thing you want is patents. I am not thinking this holds any water.

Good point. Unless Samsung (and others) thought BB would be out of business by now and they could pick and choose from the carcass at an even cheaper price? Maybe Chen's turnaround strategy really is working and it has caught the attention of the competitors. If Samsung thinks that BB stock could rise to the $20+ range (or higher) then buying them today would be a bargain.

Another angle to all of this is that they may legitimately be interested in not only the enterprise side of the business but also BB10. It's no secret that Samsung would like to divest themselves of Android and be free from Googles clutches. I know it hurts for the Android fans to hear this, but it is true. In the Google/Samsung relationship, Samsung has the dirtiest and hardest job (selling HW for profit) while Google just sits back and watches the money roll in from all the data mining they do on these sold devices. BB10 may not have great penetration in the market (yet) but it is an OS that now has most of the bugs ironed out and most major consumer apps via amazon. This is light years ahead of where Tizen is.

Considering Samsung's home grown secure MDM project just failed and landed on the scrap pile, the most likely target for acquisition would seem to be the BES product line with existing FIPS approvals. IP rights might also be on the shopping list but you can bet your collective shirts there is no wish to retain the hardware or BB10 OS components.

This would be extremely bad for BlackBerry as we know it now. The remaining product areas would almost certainly be seen as a threat diluting existing Samsung product lines, and would be firesaled or simply cancelled under the Not Invented Here rule. The entire BES development operation would move to Asia with maybe the top level project architects offered the opportunity to go with it. Everyone else would be terminated and Canadian locations closed, lights out in Waterloo.

I really hope not. My heart would break and I would feel very sick. I would probably hold on to my Z30 for as many years as it would take for the next Android / IOS / WP competition to arrive.
