    I lost speaker use, had to backup and reload, and now my old earpiece will not be recognized.

    I would recommend checking to see if it is able to pair with anything else. If it can then your phone should be fine. Assuming that you are able to pair with something else then I would recommend deleting the pairing with your earpiece and then setting it up again.
