I am a big BB10 fan. It's my daily driver, a nice limited edition Z10.

But Blackberry is posing to other brands because marketing is forbidden at BlackBerry it seems.
I have met so many people that don't know about blackberry, blackberry 10 OS or the new blackberries. They are absolutely shocked when they see what this phone can do, I know so many people that think these are big 4 inch+ phones that run BLACKBERRY OS 5 or fricken 7.

It's blackberry's own fault if they slowly lose to all the other brands and burn.
Here where I live, apple is like a minority, but they still advertise like insane.

I agree the marketing is lacking but they only haev so much money to devote to it. Hopefully the changing of the leadership will lead to a better marketing campaign in the future

I'm sure they've heard our rants and complains as well. All they need to do is take that first step.

And as they say, one step at a time. Let's see what happens when the Passport gets to the market.

Marketing is the least of their problem and probably the easiest to fix. It's just about money and partnering with the right agency.

BlackBerry is no longer in the business of selling tens of millions of phones. Their focus is enterprise clients, so their marketing is all about portraying an image of stability and security (of the company) before touting the product. Most of their marketing efforts are targeted towards wooing enterprise clients and fixing misconceptions among the IT decision maker crowd. We are seeing some of this with the Fact Check Portal, etc but the majority of this effort is done by 1on1 engagement directly with enterprises. So unless you manage the EMM deployment for your company you won't see much of BlackBerry marketing spend.

Now before someone complains about how this person they met didn't know about this awesome feature of BB10 just remember that us buying BB phones doesn't help BB in the slightest. The devices make a loss...break even at best. The device business only exists to sell high value gold BES licenses to key corporate customers. I love my BlackBerry, but marketing to convince others like me to buy a device would be a terrible waste of money today. BB needs to stabilize their business, re-establish credibility and then make key investments into consumer facing technology before ramping up marketing to influence consumer buying decisions.
