While typing a text message yesterday, my z10 started making a crackling noise through the speaker and died. I can't get it to turn back on. I have tried connecting to Link with no success. If I take the battery out and connect to my desktop the red light on comes on briefly. I tried searching the forums but was unsuccessful in finding a solution for reviving this dead phone. I have windows 7 on my desktop and couldn't figure out how to get JL commander to work; though I have used it on my older BBs. Any help is appreciated.

    Thanks!

It does sound like a hardware issue. Warranty or insurance?

You could try loading an Autoloader for the OS you have.

No warranty or insurance. I tried the autoloader but it won't recognize the phone.

I have the STL 100-3 z10 and I tried the following autoloader that I picked up from crackberry:
    Autoloader.Z10STL100-2_3_4.SW10.2.1.2941.OS3175.Radio3140

    Try this,
Plug your device in to the computer, start the autoloader and press and hold the power button on your device untill you see a green light.

Thanks... I tried that and the "Connecting to Bootrom" curser just continues to blink. The red light on my z10 turns on for about 10 seconds when I first plug it in to my desktop. After that, if I hold the power button down for about 10 seconds, the red light blinks twice. Nothing after that.

As a last resort, You could always bring it to a smartphone repair shop, they'll fix it for you if you're willing to spend a few hundred bucks.

U should try the online update method (BlackBerry - Software Updates - New Update Software for BlackBerry Smartphones - UK). Take out your battery and connect the phone to the pc. click on update and wait till it tries to connect to phone and read your pin. when the pin section comes up, put in your battery and wait a while for the phone to be recognised. if it does asks you for a password, type it in and while the phone starts to check for updates, press and hold power button till you see a green light. The update will now start and attempt to restoree your phone. If it cant read your pin, hold the phone power button down whiles putting the battery in and wait for green light ...the rest you know. This should work. God help you.

Very similar things have happened to me 4 times now. I've tried every solution that gets suggested with no luck, but when you get the brief LED and no other signs of life, it's dead in my experience. Already had three replacements via BlackBerry under warranty, just waiting for the 4th! No explanation given of the fault (despite asking!), so I can't enlighten you on the cause, but it's clearly a serious hardware fault that BlackBerry are aware of, as they replace quickly rather than repair. Not good news, I'm afraid, if you have no warranty . Might be worth approaching an official repairer to see if they can help.

I recently had the same experience. Got a Rogers Z10 since Feb 2013. Recently it just powered off and can't turn it on. I tried a lot of things and none helped. Sent in for repair and got a unrepairable response within 2 days of sending it in. Since I had it over a year there is no warranty. I guess I am out of luck. I really like BB10 UI, too bad the quality doesn't even last more than 17 months. Hope Blackberry can do better QA of their devices.

Nothing helped reviving it. After searching and trying lots of things on the internet, I plug it in the pc and hold power and mute button for 10 seconds then the red light flashed twice and then nothing after.
