Dubai is tax free country! Why the hell did the Z3 reach $246 when in Indonesia its less than 200?

Perhaps base on the demand in Indonesia, BlackBerry decide to push the price up a bit.

Thats not a good strategy. If you think about it.. with a tax free country.. you could have pushed the price lower than the introductory price of 150 they did for indonesia.

On the contrary.. you got to remember that Local Arabs are a minority in terms of number of population in Dubai. And while yes there are alot of expats that are earning alot.. there's also a big number of labor workers in Dubai. The Z3 was meant for those people who want a smartphone but are on a budget. I dont think the locals here are the market for this phone. So i think its wrong to price it at 899aed.

at 899AED (who cares about a 200AED app voucher on pre order?) the competition is priced better. The Z3 will have it difficult to make it here. On a pricing of 750AED it would probably work well. Nokia and android is ruling the segment of low budget smart phones here...

Not to mention that the Z10 with better specs sells on 649AED...

The z10 does not have better specs. It has a 720p screen and half a gig of ram more but the z3 actually outperforms the z10. It has a much better GPU and a more modern CPU. It also has much better battery life and a bigger screen.

Anyway, at 900AED, Z3 is overpriced and will hardly make it.
I remember BB devices on BIS getting very popular in here because of the unlimited data plan + BBM (and it's partial encryption...), which was at that time the only unlimited data plan for mobiles, and one of the very few cheap ways for the youth to get along on the go (Everybody was still using SMS).
Gone are these days when they were selling BB devices for 2500/3000AED like hot cakes. Times have quickly changed since the BBM vs UAE Gov. battle, data plans are now common (while so damned expensive), Whatsapp lead the way, and to be frank the only remaining BB devices I see in the local or expat communities belong to crackberry addicts (Not talking about BES), now that BBM is multi-platform...
Nokia rules the budget market. High-end is HTC, Iphone and Samsung.
I guess BBRY chose Dubai as a trendy launching hotspot to flood emerging markets in the vicinity.

    1. May be Blackberry get special pricing as Z3 made in Indonesia.
    2. Considering the shipping costs that Blackberry has to bear even in Dubai price is higher.

But it shall be a huge mistake to then drastically cut the Z3 price after the launch in a very short span of time. That kills the Brand Equity of Blackberry.

you can just say you were off by 46 dollars. In the grand scheme of things its not that much. The z3 is a GREAT phone for the price. It is so much smoother than the z10, and with 10.3 is runs 8 active frames as well.

Dubai is a market for higher end devices and I think they knew that Z3 3G won't sell as much in Dubai. After all, they did sell the Q10 (they made the white and gold just for Dubai if you recall) and Z30 very well and those were $500+ a pop so I don't see why anyone is complaining about Z3 3G being too steep. Come Z3 LTE , I bet it will sell well in Dubai even at as high of a price as $350+

Interesting. First time I hear someone say the Z3 is above a z10. Good to know. I always thought of the Z3 to be like the Q5 and the Z10 like the Q10. Even down to removable batteries.
Thanks, now I'd love to play around with a Z3.

The surprise is Z3 LTE will never make it to Dubai, the ******* ***** working in BlackBerry deciding what phone for what region thinks ME still doesn't have LTE, they screwed us over with the stupid Z10 STL100-1 variant and now they did it again with the Z3, way to go BlackBerry, you will pay the price!

What I want to know is, is the cost of LTE components worth the risk of having to support 2 different devices?

STL 100-1 have different chips than the other variants, and it has caused several feature issues like battery calibration and white balance settings.

I can understand that Z3 does not have LTE, Indonesia has barely grasped the true speed of 3G, but considering that they hoped that Z3 is popular enough to sell it elsewhere, wouldn't it make sense to make a universal model that works everywhere?

It's 23% higher. That is quite significant I think even if in absolute dollars it's not huge. When you're competing on price it is a difference.

You can't just look at local pricing, convert into dollars and compare different countries that way. It's not how it works.

There are too many LTE bands. Maybe it's not practical for BlackBerry to have an LTE radio for your region.

What's your definition of brand equity? Lol

Not only that, the majority of the population in Dubai are foreign workers. These are the guys from India, Philippines, Indonesia, etc. I've got about half a million miles with Emirates over the past couple of years...

Anyway, xiaomi just released their 1h figures.

Z3 is a DOA device. John Chen is doing the right thing and focusing on the high end.

Been a continuous trend on this particular sub forum, people asking how the Z3 is doing and how well. Furthermore for the price mentioned that the Z3 is selling for, (other competing products with better specs and lower cost-xiaomi being the most obvious one) and the fact that xiaomi is present in many of the countries that make up dubai's MAJORITY Foreign worker population would point to the Z3 being simply uncompetitive.

After all, this is a thread about pricing in Dubai
