I am most likely going to get the passport, and I have no problem with the square form factor.. but why the pointy corners? Why not rounded corners for ergonomics and comfort in the hand..? Nokia has already tried the pointy corners thing and failed miserably...
    I don't get it

I guess it's better to have pointy corners if you are using the device with both hands - it gives better support for the fingers holding it.

For the same reason of the ****ty keyboard: design.
It's only aesthetic factor. Is not made to be, it's made to look.

It's because Spock has pointy ears and he knows lots of **** and is a diligent able asset to the crew. The Passport has sharp corners for the same reason. Also, Spock is from Vulcan and the Passport looks alien too. Anyhow, that's the official reasoning from BlackBerry coz I know someone who works there.

This is probably far-fetched, but Microsoft Modern UI design (used to be called 'Metro') also went from rounded corners to pointed corners along with flattening of widget looks. It used to be going from pointed corners to rounded because pointed corners are considered 'sharp' and 'hard'. Design has come full circle. Maybe Chen was inspired by Microsoft Modern UI?

It's a design language thing, and it may be a good indicator of where future BlackBerry phones are going.

I'm good with it, personally. Remember that the Sony Xperias are also like that and I think they're the sharpest phones in the business right now.

Device design goes through cycles, and cars actually provide a pretty good gauge of how it can go. I call the realms "organic" and "technical", myself. When "organic" styles predominate, lines tend to be flowing and curvy (think late 50's Cadillacs). "Technical" designs, OTOH, are straight and very much remind the user they're using a machine (think '63 Cadillac). It goes back and forth between the two in cycles.

I actually miss my Xperia, so I love the look of the Passport. I think it was a great choice to go with the pointy corners. If BlackBerry ends up throwing a glass weave battery cover on the back of it, I will be even more in love.

If deliberately constructed weak, I suppose they could at least make decent crumple zones, for when you drop the device. :9

I'll go with this one. After all, we want to get noticed do, no? Thus, what a better waythan byleaving a mark on the floor? It will definitely be remembered. =0)

Is it so while waiting for the passport to become avaliable we can content our selves by making one out of a corn flake packet?

P.s its a really rubbish video, don't bother watching it.

I think it was just to talk about the size and form factor and not an attempt to fool folks...can't tell cause its not English.

That notwithstanding I want my 10 minutes back!

Because they look better. Sony and Nokia make the nicest looking phones atm.

I couldn't believe it when they made the Q10 with rounded corners so that every one (apart from fans) would see it as a ridiculous BlackBerry device.

I was happy to see the passport's shape.
