Not a silly question if you don't know the answer. As far as I know, the only preloaded emoticons come in BBM. That may have change since the last time I saw one, though.

I'll take it you mean emoji, those are only available from WhatsApp. You tap on the smiley face whilst writing a message and then you choose.

They aren't available across the whole OS/keyboard and there is no way to get them because, well, blackberry.

We do have our own available from the text messages app and BBM, they work in the same fashion , but friends without BBM or A BlackBerry won't be able to see them, because BlackBerry.

Thanks guys, that does help. I just found them in BBM. I won't get whatsapp for a bunch of reasons but having them in BBM is enough. *is happy*

All you have to do is force friends to adopt BBM. For friends w/out BBM, I use screen shots of a few of the BBM stickers and send them as photos:

Each separate app has its own favourite collection of emoticons. BBM has a bucket of them. WhatsApp has a different smaller set, for example. There are Smiley Packs that you can pick up cheap/for free in the BlackBerry World appstore and elsewhere, as well.
