It's because of the unique GSF ID that Snap generates and associates with your BB10 device, that's why Play store believes some of those apps are compatible, or incompatible with your device.

No BB10 is not compatible with Google Play.... where have you been?

Don't know about Flipboard, but I've had other apps say they were not compatible and yet I could install them using SNAP and they worked.

BlackBerry 10 are able to run Android apps, however it cannot run apps that require Google Play services. This is from my experience. There are some workarounds and threads on forums, however i would say it's not for those faint at heart.

John Chen said BlackBerry 10 can run 98% of the apps, which makes me wonder if only 2% of the Android apps require Google Play services? Yes, because we have SNAP and with the account logged in hence access to it (could be wrong). Those are more well verse appreciate the input!

This was done on Z30STA100-3/10.3.0.296 which I have never installed snap or similar.

Correction; Google Chrome works on certain runtimes and Google Maps works and let's you sign in if the GPS hack (in the forums somewhere) is applied.

Even though you can sign in with Maps if you have the hacked/cracked files for Google Services and Google Account installed, it still doesn't work fully, so don't get your hopes up.

There's an older version that lets you sign in and works really well if you have maps you created, but again it's an older version.

I attached a screen capture of the two apps needed (top left and top right of first image) and another of me signed in to Google Maps and access to a previously created map.

In the end he was right to an extent.

Those pictures show that app is compatible with your device. It does NOT mean Google play is compatible, just the app. Get those apps from Snap. BlackBerry has not joined up with Google Play...yet.

Am I correct in hearing that a new software update in September will allow OS10 to be recognized as a Google play services compatible device, and that apps that require Google play services such as chrome, hangout, Google maps, etc will run smoothly?

98% is a complete lie; more like 70% of android apps work on bb10 and that number is shrinking everyday with more and more apps requiring google play service to work.

I haven't heard anything like that. One can always dream though. Google is pretty strict with the requirements to have access to google services.

Kinda doubt it. I mean plenty don't work 100% but I'm guessing if you factor in all the calculator apps and apps that are never downloaded and then all the apps that complain they need GPS and then go on to work it's probably 98%

Now if we are talking about working POPULAR apps it could be 70%

All the apps I want work. Some not so well but they do work to be fair. So as far as I'm concerned other than Google play it's 100%

Google Play Services is never going to happen (officially) on BlackBerry 10, although there are partially-working workarounds in the forums. BlackBerry's collaboration with Amazon should serve as an official announcement in that regard. Amazon's Android apps are obviously second choice to Google's (have you seen the Amazon app store? It's a ghost town), and if BlackBerry is courting Amazon then clearly they've already been rebuffed by Google.

You wouldn't be. The idea is to replace Google services with BlackBerry ones - so if an app would ordinarily try to call up Google Maps for some reason, the Android runtime in BB10 would instead act as a middle man to translate between the app and BlackBerry Maps.

BlackBerry can't claim privacy and security if they rely on the least privacy-respecting company with the worst app security for services, right?

Then maybe something like a play/work mode, work mode maintains the security which its known for, and play mode which clearly says ur phone is gonna become an unsecured (and insecure) android for Google fun stuff??

    Something similar to BlackBerry balance
