I just ordered my new factory unlocked Z30 from Blackberry directly.

Do I need to contact TMO to set all this up, or do I pop in my SIM and go?

This is the first factory unlocked BB I have ever owned, so I am not sure how to proceed.

Thank You....I am so excited and can't wait to get off this silly Android. My beautiful new phone will be here in a couple of days! :-)

    Here's what you do
    - await shipment
    - unbox the beast
    - insert sim card
    - enjoy !

Pop that SIM card in and go. That's what I did...pulled the SIM out of my Z10 and put it in my Z30.

No you don't need to tell them anything. If you tell one of the reps, they will instantly think you need BIS and will tell you it won't work.

Nope, BB10 uses a standard data plan, so you're good to go.

Thanks!!! When I switched from my Z10 to this Droid temporarily, they screwed my service up by not removing the BB Data Plan. I was dreading I would have to deal with it again, but I guess not. :-)

If the z30 had the wifi calling app, and it doesn't work, you may want to call t-mob and give them the IMEI.

I had problems when I bought an unlocked 9780 to replace the 9700 I damaged. It would do everything but UMA until I phone Tmobile and gave them the IMEI.

WiFi Calling only works on phones released by T-Mobile. Seeing as the Z30 was never officially carried by them, we're out of luck.

Not sure if the WiFi calling will affect me much. I hardly used it on my Z10 because it was always dropping my calls. It was really frustrating, but I see the app only has 1.5 stars, so obviously its got issues.

Well that sucks. What doesn't the app do?

    Does it refuse to install?

Of course the app installs but since the device isn't recognized as a T-Mobile device, the toggle remains disabled.

It's not that it isn't a Tmo device, it's that the Z30 doesn't have the feature turned on in the OS. The code is there but turned off by BB since Tmo only supports the Z10 -3 and Q10 -5.

Installing the app has no effect and cannot enable the core feature. The app can only control the radio if it's already enabled in the OS and provisioned on the network.

Things might change in 10.3 but that will depend on if Tmo allows BB to turn it on.

Just pop in your SIM and go. Only thing you might want to call in to set up is your E911 address in case wifi calling does come at a later time.
