For all the talk of What's App, Viber, etc. most of the world still uses plain old text.

I recently tried to convert some people to BBM on android, and most simply don't want 2 separate messaging apps. They always say that Sms works for everyone, so why have a basic app that hardly anyone they know uses?

So my question is why isn't BBM unified with Sms on some level? If I could add my contacts in a single place, then I could message them in whichever format I have set for that contact, and have them show up in the same place. You could probably even have group conversations with a mix of both that way.

Just seems like a good way to get people running BBM, then maybe they'd eventually switch to BBM format messaging to take advantage of the extra features.

it was back in the BBOS days but it wasnt as clean as it could have been. Imessage does a decent job of this and hangouts does as well. Not sure if BB will do this again or not
