    New app announcement -

It is called Cast and enables YouTube casting via a Chromecast native on BlackBerry 10 Phones and is 2.00 GBP

Cast for BlackBerry - BlackBerry World

Have you bought a Chromecast and wished native support for Casting YouTube videos on your BlackBerry 10? Cast for BlackBerry can help with this. Leveraging the power of BlackBerry10's sharing capabilities, you can now use your favourite YouTube client, or a standard browser, and hit 'share'. Choosing Cast will display that video directly on your Chromecast. A simple search of current feeds is included in-app to get you started! This Application is BBM Connected, and integrates into the BlackBerry 10 Hub to keep you informed. This application also includes support for Pebble Smartwatches, and the Upfront active Frame app.

Well, that's downright cool. I didn't expect that such an app would be possible without tieing in to Google Play services -- which we know doesn't fly on the current BB 10 OS.

Well done, and good luck with it.

fyi, version 1.0.1 needs you to know your chromecast IP address. If you have problems working that out you have 2 choices - contact me and I'll help work it out, or wait for 1.0.2 which is being assessed by BlackBerry now and should be with you in a the next day or two. That has auto discover mode.......

    hiya,

currently it is not possible to play stored media on the phone, but i don't rule it out. it took me a while to figure out how to get this far to be honest, but its a personal interest so I won't be giving up anytime soon. I am not in the habit of making promises for future features that I can't keep, I just give you a commitment not to give up at this point.

typically my own requirements and/or user feedback is what drives adoption of new features for me, I'm open to work with anyone on this so feel free to let me know what you want, and what is possible is very likely to make the cut

Thank you! I use Chromecast everyday with Netflix as it's currently the only app that still appears to work flawlessly on my Z30 with 10.3.

I would love to have local media / nobex / plex capabilities. Many apps have Chromecast support but rely directly on Google Services. An older version of Google's Youtube app did work but no more.

    Thanks for this app!

Love the app update! Works great! Is there a current way to control the currently playing media? Or is it essentially a start and wait to stop scenario?

@nigel - for now google have left it as a 'set it and forget it' mechanism I'm afraid. Only the official cast api, which we don't have access to allows that level of control. But necessity is the mother of invention. Watch this space....

Thanks for that, I love the app, and hitting the reset option does stop the stream so that works well enough for me.

I very, very rarely buy apps. Frankly many of them are not useful, or have many alternatives available that perform about the same. I am very happy with my purchase of CAST as it fills a void that cannot be replicated through any other means. Casting through Youtube is great as it allows me to push music, playlists and streams to my TV as I walk around the apartment. With Youtube and Netflix now working I'm pretty satisfied except for a few niche uses for Chromecast that can be accomplished with a PC or iPad.

5 stars for the dev and his excellent app which performs exactly as described.

btw - Does anyone have a recommendation for a Youtube app that has additional functions over the browser version and works well with CAST?

Hey, nice work! I didn't think it'd be possible

Question: can we queue up a series of YouTube videos? That is, can I send my first video to the Chromecast, then while that's playing on the TV find another video and queue it to play next, etc.?
