T-mob 2G in a sea of LTE: post your tower sniffing-img_20140517_013524.png

OK, the rules are simple. Put your phone in manual scan and document T-Mobile at 2G with the competition at LTE. I did this snap shot at a Cabellas in Hamberg Pa. Basically the north edge of Berks County in Pa.

Better yet, post photos of no T-Mobile service and the competition at LTE. Honorable mention if the competition at plain 4G, as long as T-Mobile is missing in action.

You can win...welll nothing actually. But this thread may embarrass T-mobile into speeding up the 2G to LTE conversions. However, I suspect all the roaming partners in the boonies will be 2G for a long time.

What's the point of this? Do you hope some senior management exec will see this and act accordingly?

    I think not...

What's interesting about this is that T-Mobile allows you to actually do a scan. If you were on say AT&T, that function. Is disabled.

This should be independent of the cellular provider. You just put the phone in manual scan.

Yes, it should be. But it's not. When you insert the AT&T sim, that function goes away.

    Denise:

You are supposed to dis' T-Mobile by showing T-Mobile at 2g and everyone else at LTE. In LA, T-Mobile has LTE.

You would probably have to head up to Ventura County for find T-Mobile 2G, or head inland. IIRC Palmdale /Lancaster also had LTE, but it wouldn't surprise me if you went on 14 north of Mojave you would find 2G T-Mobile.

I did find rural spots in Pa. where Verizon had no LTE.

I expect to find a lot of the roaming partners at 2g. Updating the towers is half the battle. They need a high speed backbone as well.

Many years ago you could tether on a roaming partner. T-Mobile dropped that. You can still get data on the phone, but not tether.

In any event, T-Mobile should be spending that AT&T money on roaming with a 4g partner, not some useless 2g, so I consider your post an official dis!

I know people like privacy, so as not to get too specific, are you in a canyon area of socal?

This seems weird in an urban area to be stuck with GSM, though you can't argue with the snapshot.

Not a canyon, just a suburb where signal is spotty, about 10 miles east of downtown LA.

This was captured in Seville, Ohio. My device had a weak EDGE signal when I took this screenshot, I must have been on the absolute fringe of 4G.
