Hey I thought I would start a thread where we can post speedtests of Verizon's XLTE network.

Here is Broad Street in Philadelphia:

How do you know this is on the XLTE network?

    Speedtest over 50-60mbps.

XLTE is 60-150 mbps. Real world is going to be 20-80 usually depending on load and signal strength.

Also in engineering screen you can view connected frequency but this is much harder.

Here is what to look at in the escreen:

    Band 13 (700mhz regular LTE):
    Verizon XLTE Sightings-img_20140520_181520.png
This will always show DL and UL bandwidth as 10 for each.

    Band 4 (AWS 1700/2100mhz XLTE)
    Verizon XLTE Sightings-img_20140520_175520.png
This will usually show UL and DL bandwidth as 15 or 20 for each. There may be some areas where it is less but this is unlikely.

Here is a 2 bar XLTE test withing a concrete stairwell:

Here is a 4-5 bar XLTE test in the open:

Are you somehow forcing your phone from band 13 onto the band 4 network? If so, how do you do that--switch at will between available networks of the same type?

No it switches automatically. If Band 4 is above a certain threshold for signal (seems like about 2 bars) then it will attach to Band 4 over Band 13.

I can be in an area with 4 bars Band 13 and 2-3 Band 4 and the Z30 will switch to Band 4.

If Band 4 gets below a threshold the Z30 will fallback to Band 13.

Band 13 has better signal propagation and building penetration characteristics, which is why this works.

It is almost completely seamless. The band changes are about 1 second. Data connection is maintained, but there is a pause during the hand off. AFAIK it isn't breaking the data connection which is great.

This happened a bunch of times while I was testing this at school tonight. Very reliable and Band 4 has much more building penetration than I had thought it would.

Verizon definitely is doing this right with their layered network!

FWIW, I have gotten close to that speed with my Z10 on band 17. (Z10 does not support AWS)

Please post escreen results showing Band 4 if possible to confirm that you are on XLTE and not the old Band 13 network. Band 13 can speedtest up to 50-60 mbps download and about 20 mbps upload if uncongested.

    Escreen is 3GPP Radio>Radio Network Info>Serving Cell (LTE)>Band

Band 4 is XLTE and Band 13 is LTE.

XLTE will have 10, 15, or 20 Mhz while LTE (Band 13) will have 10 Mhz.

Verizon is running 20MHz channels here. Speedtests are awesome, especially since this is 2 bars and indoors.
