I've found so many conflicting answers it isn't even funny, so I figured I'd try again to solicit current advice/answers.

I'm going to Israel next month for a week. The Verizon global data and voice rates are insane. I can rent a GSM sim for a week for a fraction of the cost. I can also rent a whole phone there for a week for a fraction of the cost.

I'd prefer to take my Q10 with me and use an Israeli sim.

So, can it be done or not? Like I said, there are lots of conflicting stories and I've spent a ton of time researching this one

Perhaps more importantly, has anybody else done it?

    Thanks!

Check to see if your phone is sim locked. Plenty of threads with instructions on how to view this.

Yes, Verizon Q10s can accept GSM SIMs. What's even better is that they're sold unlocked. I have seen posts here on CB where people were using Verizon Q10s on AT&T.

    1) Check that your phone supports the frequencies of Israeli towers.
    2) Call VZW and ask them directly.

Yes, a Verizon Q10 can take a GSM SIM card. I have my T-Mobile SIM in mine right now. I did nothing extra to unlock it. As far as I can tell all Verizon LTE devices are unlocked.

However, I am limited to HSPA+ and EDGE depending on the area I am in. It will ultimately depend on the bands and frequencies the Israeli carriers use that will determine if the Q10 will work or not.

pretty certain the answer would be NO. the GSM functionality on VZW is more for when customer are roaming in Non-US markets.

    bigbunny78,

Your post is incorrect. Verizon Blackberrys are sold sim unlocked. You can use one on AT&T or T-mobile here in the US or any other GSM carrier worldwide as long as they use the following GSM frequencies:

    GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900
    HSDPA 800 / 850 / 900 / 1900 / 2100
    LTE 700 / 1700

And they also never roam on to a GSM, as the LTE sim is just for verizons LTE. It will roam onto sprints CDMA network and that is that.
