I downloaded this app "ColorID". It makes the led blink different colors for your contacts. Unfortunately it doesn't work so i uninstalled it. The app defaults the led to blink for 5 mins and stops, now after deleting it, my default red led stops blinking after 5 mins, which should only stop blinking after reading the message. How do i change the default time the led will blink?

I don't think that the normal led keeps on blinking if you have not read a message. I believe it stops at some point although I don't know how long it does blink.

The default (i.e., no third party app), is close to 10 minutes. There are apps that will let you change that, but nothing native. I wish the ability to control it was ported into BB10 as it was in the older OS'es.
