Was wondering how many use the Verizon Network Extender (Samsung).

I purchased one used, less then 1year old, installed it and have been enjoying it since.

Plus you get this cool little icon when your phone is connected.

Don't need it because have great service. I do pick up a public one on the street when I am walking into my building for work. Glad it is working for you. How is it different then a wifi router?

Does nothing with wifi. It acts as a small cell phone tower. Runs the call over the Internet.

My family room is partially underground and a hill between it and the cell tower.
This works great. Having a good amount of bandwidth helps as well. Can handle up to 6 phones at a time.

Installed them in my bosses house. Gives you that little icon, and you get a special little beep when a call is going out over the extender. Works good enough.

So it is a mini cell tower but runs call over internet? So it is basically wifi calling?

Also delivers 3G data too but I use my regular Wifi for that. Does not go over Wifi at all. It receives the cell signal and sends it via VPN to Verizon. The signal in and out is CDMA. Not sure what the protocol is over the Internet.
    More like VOIP.

Had lousy service at our house. Purchased a refurb from Verizon and now have full service not only inside our house but, a decent range outside of the house. Well worth the money when your house is in a spotty signal area.

I've had one for three years. BB10 devices manage to get 2 bars of cell signal, but at the time I got it, the torch 9860 was just hopeless and so the network extender was a necessity.

Works great as long as the power and/or Internet don't go out.

I get full 4 bars throughout the house. I have it on a UPS as is my whole server farm at home.

I meant to say that Bb10 devices actually manage to get 2 bars of proper Verizon cell signal (without the extender), as opposed to the torch, which couldn't seem to get anything consistently.

I have a backup generator, but I find cable (and internet) also goes down when we lose power in our area.

I "tried" it. Unfortunately, the antenna that is required constantly dropped it's signal from the satellite. Verizon said this is the most common problem they have with the extender. So in my case, it was a waste of money.

I think the only satellites it receives signals from are GPS satellites (for E-911?), so it does have to be near a window to some sort of fix.

Thats what the website says as well. GPS for 911 services.

Comes with a real long thin cord to extend the GPS receiver.
