I have been using BlackBerry 10 since release now. I absolutely adore it.

    I love the unlock gesture.
I love the Hub peek gesture.
So why does BlackBerry 10 not let me combine them? Even after a long time of using it, my initial thought when my LED blinks is to swipe up and to the right. But the unlock gesture ignores the hub peek and I end up in my active frames or app pane regardless.

This is a total "flow" breaker and annoys me to no end. Does anyone feel the same? Any ideas on why they didn't do this to begin with?

Interesting thought. No issue here. Password protected phone makes opening a multi-step process anyway. Still for some any additional steps is too much. Maybe BlackBerry will hear.

Nice thought if not protected by password

Just lock your phone when you're in your hub. You can lift and pull back down which is basically a peek.

Yep, or just preview the message on the lock screen to see if it's worth reading or not, then access it directly from there with a tap and a swipe, and sometimes a password.
A couple extra steps, but it does the job.

Thanks for the responses and tips so far. I agree that this only applies to a device without password lock. Personally I have my phone set to password lock after 30 minutes so the problem with the gesture still happened frequently enough for me to notice.

I guess it just would be nice to see from a continuity / flow standpoint. It's certainly nothing major, altough still a bit jarring in its current form.

As others have said, tap on the icon on the lockscreen, the it will say Tap to Open. Tap there and it will bring you directly to the message. Exiting the message will then bring you back to the Hub

If you are in the hub before closing the screen, swiping up will preview hub
